Bender pulls us into the back of the black SUV and slams the door. “Sorry.” He kisses my forehead. “That will all die down once the retirement becomes old news.”

I lay my head on his shoulder and smile. “I don’t care. It’s part of your world. I’ll take the good with the bad.”

“I will protect you,” he promises as Grizz jumps in the front seat.

“Thanks, Grizz.” Bender leans up and pats his bodyguard on the shoulder.

“I wasn’t fast enough.” Grizz glances over his shoulder to smirk. “That shiner is going to be splashed all over the news.”

“I don’t care if the whole world sees the proof that this little angel is mine.” Bender shrugs, unconcerned.

CHAPTERTHIRTY-EIGHT

BENDER

“Run into a door?” Gloria takes one look at my black eye and laughs.

“Yeah. A big fucking mean door named Cash.” I roll my eyes and pull the tiny older woman into my arms for a hug. It’s been a while since I was at the compound. As I look around the large hallway, I realize how much I missed it.

“Hey, sweetie.” Gloria wraps her arms around my angel. “I’m so happy you could come to visit for a while.”

The kitchen door opens, and Rulie comes strolling in. His eyes widen when he sees my beat-up face. “Did you piss off that little miss?” He smirks.

“Nope.” I shake my head. “I can’t believe you haven’t already heard about the little snit.” Rulie and Gloria know everything about us. They take their jobs of keeping the peace seriously.

“I heard Cash had a hole dug in the back pasture.” He shrugs nonchalantly. “I’d start kissing his ass so you don’t end up in it.”

My angel gasps. “She thinks you’re serious.” I pull her close and lift her chin so I can stare into her worried blue eyes. “Your brother and I worked everything out. You don’t have anything to worry about,” I assure her.

“Why don’t you bring her luggage in, and I’ll show her the guest room?” Gloria looks over at her husband.

“That won’t be necessary.” I halt them. “My angel is staying at my house with me.”

I see the questions swirling in both their eyes, but they know better than to question me. “Where is everyone?”

“The whole crew is out back arguing about how to fry a goddamn turkey.” Rulie shakes his head. “The fucking fire department is ready to come put out the blaze.”

“Come on, sweetie.” Gloria reaches for my angel’s hand. “Let’s go see what the ladies are up to in the kitchen. Catriona planned the entire dinner and we’re all chipping in to help get it ready. The men can figure their shit out.”

I kiss London’s forehead and whisper, “I’ll be right outside.”

“Yeah.” Concern fills her blue eyes. “With my brother and flammables.”

“It’s all good.” I stare into her eyes before kissing her juicy lips. “I’ll be back in a few.”

“Holy shit,” Rulie grumbles. “The fire alarm is going to go off from the fucking heat in here.”

As my angel follows Gloria into the kitchen, he turns to me. “You like to live dangerously, don’t you?”

“She’s worth it.” I shrug.

“I hope you still think that when your future brother-in-law shoves a fried turkey up your ass.”

“London is mine.” I leave no doubt about my intentions. “Her brothers will just have to get over it because I’m keeping her.”

“I’ll order extra ice packs and bandages. Just in case.” Rulie and I walk out onto the back patio. “Make sure the blood stays outside. Gloria will have my ass if she has to clean up the mess.”

“There’s the fucking dead man,” Cash growls. I glance over and barely hold my laugh back when I see Giant, Cowboy, Playboy, and Hands fumbling with the stainless-steel contraption.
