CHAPTER 11

Olivia

Seated in the hospital, I could only imagine what a great father Ben was. I listened to him talk about how much he loved his son and how far he would go for him. I could tell he was holding back some words to describe how much he loved his son because he didn’t want me to feel offended, but I didn’t care.

I thought of how much love he could share with me if he could love his son that much. I smiled at intervals as I watched him talk. The way he loved his son attracted me to him even more.

I admired the fact that he was a hunk. He was big and attractive. But the sweetest thing was how he brought himself down for his son. I wasn’t sure I received that kind of fatherly love. It made my stomach tingle with delight to see how good of a father he was.

The nurse had just left, and we had the room to ourselves again. Now, I wished we could press play from where we still and kiss. I didn’t want to seem desperate, so I acted cool.

“So… what now?” I asked. This was the point where we needed to know more about ourselves. It wasn’t the best place for the conversation, but there was no better moment.

“Now, we wait.” He responded. His hands never left his son.

“We wait? You don’t plan on getting him out today, do you?” I was curious. The boy needed more rest.

“I do,” Ben responded.

“What a clingy father. So, you can’t let your son out of your sight for a minute?” I chuckled.

“I can. I let him stay home with the caregiver while I go to work.” He replied with a straight face. He didn’t get that I was making fun of him.

“Who’s the baby? You or Michael?” I asked and laughed lightly.

“I think I’m the baby.” He laughed. He got the joke. “He likes to be around me, but I like to be around him more than he likes to be around me.” He added.

“I’m jealous of the love you share,” I said.

“Jealousy kills. You should know that.” He made a joke out of what I said.

“This one is healthy.” I laughed lightly. “On a more serious note, you can’t take him today.” I got serious.

“Why’s that?” He looked at me with his side eyes.

“You didn’t hear what the nurse said,” I called his memory back.

“Remind me, ma’am. What did she say?” He asked.

“She said they will do a few more tests on him before they can discharge him. Tell me you didn’t hear that part.” I reminded him.

“I heard it,” I chuckled. “I heard it, but I forgot.” A smile plastered on his face.

“Besides, I can still take him home today after the multiple check-ups. He deserves a proper rest. He’s been through so much today.” He said and put his palm on his son’s head.

“Yes, He’s.” I couldn’t help but agree with him. “Well, whatever you decide to do, I’ll back you up. I’ll help you do it if you need a hand.” I offered to help.

“Thank you so much,” He couldn’t stop smiling.

The room went quiet for a few seconds.

“You think we can wait for him to wake up somewhere else? We could just stroll out for a cup of coffee,” he suggested.

“That’s not a bad idea.” I accepted.

“I don’t want him listening to adult conversations.” He laughed.

We stepped out of the sick room.
