“Oh…” Jade’s hand slipped from her mouth. “Oh!”

Her body tensed, her hips rising from the seat as her pleasure peaked. Her back arched, her mouth falling open in a wordless cry of ecstasy. Simone moved inside her, feeling her tighten and release, tighten and release, over and over and over.

Until finally, Jade’s body calmed, and she fell back into her seat, breathing hard and fast.

“Whew.” Jade’s hand fell to Simone’s lap. “You should buy a hotel every day, because that was… wow.”

“What did I tell you?” Simone murmured. “I said I’d make you come, and with three minutes to spare.”

Jade opened her eyes, looking out the window. Traffic was moving again, and they were almost back at the office. She smoothed down her skirt, glancing frantically around the car.

“Looking for these?” Simone asked, dangling Jade’s panties from her finger.

A pink flush rose up Jade’s cheeks. She took her panties from Simone and slipped them back on. Simone leaned over and straightened up Jade’s blouse before tucking a stray strand of her hair behind her ear.

“It’s a pity you have plans this evening,” Simone said. “Otherwise we could continue celebrating. In the penthouse of The Star, perhaps. A perk of owning the hotel means it’s at my disposal whenever I want it, for whatever I want. OrwhoeverI want.”

But the coy smile Simone was expecting didn’t materialize. Instead, Jade glanced away, her fingers fidgeting in her lap.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “I’d change my plans if I could.”

“Jade, you don’t need to apologize. I’m only teasing you.”

“I can call you after I’m done. Maybe we can do something then?”

“Only if that’s what you want. I don’t want to get in the way of these plans of yours.”

The car stopped in front of the office building. Jade didn’t wait for the driver to open the door before getting out. Simone frowned. Bringing up the evening’s plans had sucked all the air out of the car, along with the mood. And now, Jade could barely look at her.

What was going on? What were these plans that Jade was being so tight-lipped about? While they weren’t any of Simone’s business, it was unlike Jade to be so secretive.

What was she hiding?

CHAPTER 26

The afternoon came and went. And at 6:30 p.m., Jade announced that she was leaving.

Simone looked up from the file in front of her. “Are you forgetting something?”

“I don’t think so.” Jade’s eyes narrowed in thought. “I sent those emails like you asked. I made dinner reservations at the French restaurant you like for next month when the investors from New York are in town. And I called the city about speeding up the development application for the Silver Lake site.”

“The new floor plans for The Star. I asked you to print out a hard copy for me.”

Jade grimaced. “I completely forgot. I sent it to the printer but got sidetracked. I’ll grab it now.”

Simone watched her slip out of the room. She’d been behaving strangely all afternoon. Jumpy. Distracted. Nervous. She was trying her best to hide it, but Simone could tell.

It had to have something to do with her plans for the evening. Plans she clearly didn’t want to tell Simone about. Not that she owed Simone an explanation. It wasn’t like Jade was her girlfriend. They’d been clear about that from the start.

Simone refocused her attention on the document before her, minutes from a recent meeting. But as she made a note at the bottom of the page, the ink in her pen ran dry.

She tossed it into the trash can nearby and made her way to Jade’s desk. Her ever-organized assistant had a virtual stationary closet in her bottom drawer.

Simone opened it up and grabbed a box of pens. As she closed the drawer again, her eyes landed on Jade’s laptop. The screen was still on, a calendar displayed in the browser. But it wasn’t Simone’s calendar, which her assistant was in charge of managing. It was Jade’s personal calendar.

And underneath today’s date, the evening was blocked out for an event. There was no description, just a location.

7 p.m. The Fox.
