“So no more cushy hotel room? I still can’t believe your boss paid for that.”

“She owns the hotel. It’s not a big deal.” Jade took a sip of her coffee. “I am going to miss that fancy suite though.”

“Well, you definitely seem better than the last time I saw you. You’re practically glowing. It’s a little weird, actually.”

“I’m just happy. There’s nothing weird about that.”

“No, it’s not just that. There’s something different about you.” Renee narrowed her eyes. “Wait. Did you get laid?”

“God, Renee!” Jade glanced around. “Keep your voice down!”

“I’m not hearing a no. So youdidget laid?”

“If I answer you, will you stop being so loud?”

Renee shrugged. “Sure.”

“Fine, I got laid.” Jade crossed her arms. “Are you happy?”

“I will be once you tell me about it.”

Jade sighed. She wasn’t getting out of this.

“Come on,” Renee said. “I wantallthe details. Like who she is, to start with. I didn’t even know you were seeing someone.”

“I wasn’t. And I’m not. It’s more of a casual thing.”

But what had happened between them that night could hardly be described ascasual. It had been so unbridled and raw, so intense.

“Really?” Renee studied Jade’s face. “I didn’t think ‘casual’ was your thing.”

“I’m trying something new,” Jade said. “And in more ways than one. Honestly, I can hardly believe I’m doing this myself.”

“Doing what? And you still haven’t told me who she is.”

“Right. Well…” Jade pushed the ice in her coffee around with her straw. “Remember when I told you that the woman I met at Club Velvet turned out to be my boss?”

“Yes? And?” Renee’s eyes widened. “Wait.Wait.You had sex with your boss?”

Jade nodded. “We went back to Club Velvet, and she showed me the private rooms. Turns out she’s one of the club’s owners, so we—”

Renee held up her hands. “Hold on a minute. You had sex in a private room at Club Velvet? With your boss? Who also owns the club?”

Jade nodded again.

“Holy…” Renee shook her head. “Am I really talking to Jade here? How many women have you even slept with? I don’t think you’ve ever had a one-night stand before. And you bangedyour boss?”

“Well, yeah. And it wasn’t a one-night stand. It’s very much a no-strings thing, but it seems like we both want this to keep going.”
