“Where is everyone?”

“Pyro and Cameron are with Skylar at that monstrosity he calls a house. Gunner has Sarah upstairs resting. Poor girl is fucking miserable. Frank is staying at the distillery tonight with Priest, and the rest of the brothers are doing their own thing,” King said, looking at his phone.

“Wanna watch a movie tonight?” Bails asked nicely. “We’re gonna watch Die Hard. The best Christmas movie ever.”

King groaned, “Die Hard is not a Christmas movie, Cupcake.”

“The fuck it isn’t. It takes place during Christmas, therefore it’s a Christmas movie by default.”

“No, it’s not.”

Knowing damn well that conversation could go on forever, I looked at my watch, noting the time. Grabbing my cold beer, I got to my feet. “And on that note. I am going to bed. Good night.”

I had just made it to the stairs when I heard Freyja say my name sweetly. “Dimeter.”

I cringed, stopping dead in my tracks as a trickle of fear seeped down my spine.

My sister was up to something.

I fucking knew it.

“I read the cards today. Your time is coming to a close.”

Groaning, I said nothing as I headed upstairs.

Chapter Five

Henley

“Ms. Never, can you please come in here?!”

Grumbling, I got to my feet. I hated this job.

I hated it.

I hated it.

I hated it!

It was a good thing I loved my sister, because as soon as she was better, I was never leaving my cabin again.

Never!

The mayor just didn’t quit.

I thought when he first made a pass at me it was an accident and brushed it off. The second time, I chalked it up to him having a bad day, but the third, fourth and fifth, well, the only excuse I could come up with was the man was a pervert and needed to be put down like the dirty dog he was.

Now it was a daily game of cat and mouse, from nine in the morning to five o’clock in the afternoon. He was determined to get in my pants, and I was of the mind his dick would look lovely stapled to his forehead!

How my sister dealt with this asshole every day I would never know. All I knew was that she needed to get better, and fast, because I was about at my wit’s end. No amount of love and devotion was worth this shit.

Entering the mayor’s office, I plastered on a smile. “Yes, Mr. Mayor?”

“Come in and close the door behind you.”

“I’m not comfortable with that, sir.”

The stout, disgusting man sneered. “You either do as I say or I will fire you and your sister. Mouthy bitch is lucky I haven’t already.”
