“Jaxon.”

Her eyes go wide. “Jackass Jaxon?”

I giggle. “Yeah, that’s the one.”

“Ugh, how did he even know you still worked here?”

“I don’t know. Guess he just took the risk.”

“So, he sent you flowers out of the blue?”

“Yes. I mean, no.” I exhale loudly. “I ran into him today. Like, literally ran into him.”

“Damn, after all this time?”

“Yeah.”

“Don’t tell me you’re taking him back, Kai.”

“Kenzie, calm down. No one is taking anybody back. Today was the first time I’ve seen him since the breakup.”

“What did he say?”

“That he wanted to talk over dinner.”

She hops off my desk. “He’s got some nerve.”

“I know. And I honestly don’t know if I want to hear what he has to say.”

She rolls her eyes. “Why do men always do this shit? They fuck up and think we’re supposed to automatically forgive them if they come crawling back.”

“I don’t know.”

“Anyway, enough about Jaxon. You saw him, he invited you to dinner, and you’re not going, end of discussion.” She crosses her arms over her petite frame.

I laugh out loud. “Aren’t you being bossy today.”

Her hazel eyes narrow. “I mean it, Kai. I can’t stand to see you hurt like that again.”

“You have nothing to worry about.”

She watches me for a second before she speaks. “I have someone I want you to meet.”

“Oh no. The last time you tried to set me up, it was a total disaster.”

“How was I supposed to know he was a jerk?”

“Nope. Not doing it.”

“He’s the real deal, Kai. Sexy. Charming. And…he’s a doctor.”

“If he’s the real deal, why haven’t you gone out with him?”

“Because Liam and I are working things out.” She checks the time. “I gotta go. I have a conference call.”

“Okay. Call me later.”

She rushes out of my office, and I sit down at my desk and try to focus. It doesn’t work. The flowers all around overwhelm me. My cell phone buzzes, and I quickly grab it. It’s my most recent hookup. His name is Owen, but I refer to him as, hook-up Number Three.
