It’s time to break the news to my best friend Allan. He had been my friend for as long as I could remember.

I knew he’d have quite a reaction to everything that had happened – from me secretly dating his brother Alexander tothe pregnancy. And now we must add that Alexander met my parents and we were planning an engagement party.

It felt like my life was both soaring and spiraling out of control at the same time.

Breaking the news of our engagement and my pregnancy to him was a big step, and I wanted to do it in person.

As Alexander and I drove towards his house, he surprised me by offering to tell Allan himself.

"Elizabeth," Alexander began. "I was thinking maybe I should be the one to tell Allan about our engagement. He's my brother, after all."

I furrowed my brows, considering his offer. It was true that Allan was Alexander's brother, but he’d been my best friend through so many ups and downs in our lives.

I wanted to be the one to share this life-changing news with him.

"I appreciate your thoughts, Alexander," I said, "but Allan and I’ve been through so much together. He's also family to me, and I think he'd appreciate hearing it from me."

Alexander let out a sigh, realizing how determined I was to be the one to share the news.

"If that's how you feel. I understand."

I smiled at him, grateful for his understanding.

"Thank you, Alexander."

As we pulled up to his house, I couldn't help but feel a rush of nerves.

What would Allan's reaction be?

How would he take the news of our engagement and the baby?

I knew I had to tell him gently, and I hoped our friendship would remain as strong as ever.

As we walked into Alexander's house, my mind still buzzing with plans for the engagement party, we were met with an unexpected sight.

Allan stood in the living room, gazing at a magnificent portrait on the wall. My heart sank, and Alexander's expression mirrored my own – we felt we'd been caught red-handed, even though we had already planned to come clean about our relationship.

Alexander quickly composed himself and turned to the maids and Hilda, who were also in the room.

"Excuse them, please. They need a moment alone."

Hilda and the maids nodded and left the room as I entered. Alexander gave me a quick smile of support, then closed the door behind them, leaving me alone with Allan.

Allan stood there, arms crossed, a knowing look in his eyes. Finally, he broke the silence, saying, "Well?"

"There's something I need to tell you."

My heart pounded in my chest.

"You know how I've been spending much time with Alexander lately?"

Allan raised an eyebrow but said nothing, allowing me to continue.

I took a deep breath and continued, "Alexander and I... We’ve been dating. We're in a relationship."

The words hung in the air, heavy with significance. I finally looked up to see Allan's reaction, and the silence stretched between us.

He blinked, clearly taken off guard and shocked by my confession, his mouth opening and closing as if he were searching for the right words.
