I nodded.
“What about you? What was your life like?”
“Just a regular girl. I’m an only child, doted upon to the best of my parents’ ability. We didn’t have much, but we managed. My mom has about seven siblings, so I have a lot of cousins. My dad is the quietest man you’ll ever meet. I barely had any adventures while growing up.”
“No boyfriends?”
“Tenth grade. Nothing serious. Married now with a daughter. What about you?”
“What about me?” a smirk on my face.
She chuckled. “No girlfriends?”
“I did have one. Nothing serious, either. We met at a gala like this one. She’s the daughter of a prominent millionaire. I had serious feelings for her, but she and her dad were trying to use me. She just kept asking me private questions, wanting to know my plans, wanting me to make investments in her dad’s business.”
“I did all of them because I was genuinely interested in her, but after a while, it started to feel like I was being forced into things Ididn’t want to be part of, so I had to break up with her. The night of the breakup, she was kissing one of my rivals. That’s why I avoid everything, you know, relating to my heart and business.”
We locked eyes, and she sipped from her glass. There was a bit of silence. I wasn’t sure if the last statement was the right thing to say, but I had to be honest.
“Hi. A picture, please?” I heard behind me.
I turned around to see an elderly man and his wife. I wasn’t a fan of taking pictures with strangers, but they were polite, and events like these called for it.
I pulled Elizabeth in, and we took the picture.
“So beautiful,” the man’s wife said, looking at Elizabeth.
I nodded in appreciation.
“What’s your favorite snack?” She asked out of nowhere.
“Cakes. Iced. Flavored. Soft. Hot. Sugary.”
She burst into laughter.
We spent the rest of the night getting to know each other, and I realized how much I was falling for her. I liked Elizabeth. So much. I couldn’t even lie to myself about it.
“I enjoyed tonight,” I whispered.
“Me too,” she whispered back.
As the evening ended, I drove her back to her place. As I walked her to the door gently, I leaned for a kiss.
Her lips tasted of the wine she’d been drinking, soft and enticing. I pulled her in and cupped her face, kissing her lips with energy. She returned every kiss with a quiet moan, and I could feel myself harden. We both pulled away.
“I will leave you with the kiss, although I want more. I have work still to take care of. Good night, Elizabeth. It was an enjoyable evening.”
Chapter Eleven
Elizabeth
Alexander.
The very thought of his name sent a shiver down my spine. He'd occupied my mind lately, more than I cared to admit.
There was a magnetic pull between us, an undeniable attraction that I couldn't ignore. Every interaction, every glance, it all left me wanting more.
I couldn't help but replay each moment with Alexander in my head.
