Cason loudly cleared his throat.
Lacey’s shoulders drooped. “Most of the time.”
They both looked at Cason to see him grin. “I’ll give her that.”
Sebastian released her and watched her go directly to her daddy. He grinned when Cason yanked her onto his lap and passionately kissed her.
When it went on and on, he finally cleared his own throat to get their attention. Sebastian hid a smile behind his hand when they both turned to look at him, looking confused.
Cason relaxed and lifted her off his lap. “What are you doing, Babe?”
“A few of us are cleaning out another room to use for our survivors.”
“Why?” Sebastian asked.
“Because we’re getting more and more all the time,” Cason told him.
“That’s good and bad at the same time,” Sebastian said.
Cason nodded. “We’re saving more, but it looks like there are more to save in the last year.”
“I think the traffickers are doubling down since so much of their ‘merchandise’ is going away.” Just saying that pissed him off.
Lacey kissed her daddy’s cheek. “I’ll see you guys later.” Lacey got to the door. “Bye, Sebby.”
He sighed, making her giggle. “Are you ever going to stop calling me that?”
Lacey looked up and tapped her chin like she was thinking about it, then grinned at him. “Nope.”
They heard her laughing all the way down the hallway, making them both smile.
“She’s a handful, huh?”
Cason rolled his eyes. “You have no idea, but it’s definitely worth it.”
Sebastian agreed. Having a little of his own was something he dreamed about but didn’t think would ever happen.
Cason stood up. “How about I walk you up to your place?”
“Sure.” He stood and followed Cason to the elevator.
The doors were about closed when he caught sight of a woman he’d never seen before, but she still seemed vaguely familiar. He’d ask the next time he saw her. Right now, he wanted to eat something and crash for twelve or more hours.
He was getting too old for traipsing around after scumballs. But he was glad there was another place for him in the organization, so he wasn’t going to stop, he’d just find the fuckers a different way.
Chapter Four
A few weeks later, Sebastian was walking down a hallway when he heard strange voices in one of the offices. The door was mostly closed but open enough for him to hear easily. He stopped to listen.
The female sounded angry. “I’m not signing anything, Father.”
“Why are you being so difficult? You know this is the right thing to do. You’re not in the right mind to be able to deal with this.”
“How do you know what I’m able to deal with? You and Nickolas took one look at me after I got home and were instantly horrified and disgusted. The way the two of you made me feel sent me back to the beginning of my healing process.”
“You’re so thin.”
“Because they don’t feed you. Jesus Christ, Father. Did you think I went away to some spa and would come home and be the person I was before?”
