The doors opened, and her stomach twisted, and her heart was going to rip out of her chest. One of her worst fears stood in front of her, and she knew she could not race around him and into her place.
She inhaled and tried to smile. One look at her and he knew something was wrong.
“What in the world…” Sebastian said and pulled her out of the elevator.
She tried to yank her arm away. “Let me go.”
He shook his head.
She saw the concern in his eyes but didn’t believe it. She fought to get away from him.
“Sweetheart, settle down. Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out.”
She stopped and looked up at him. “You’re fucking kidding me, aren’t you? You can’t help me. You’re part of the problem.”
“How?”
She started to fight again. “Let me go,” she screamed.
He started pulling her toward his apartment, and it made her go wild.
“No!”
He pulled her in, turned and shut the door, and locked it before letting her go.
She raced to the other side of the room and frantically looked around for anything she could use as a weapon or escape.
He crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re not leaving here until we deal with this.”
She laughed, but it came out more like a scream. “How about this? You let me go, and I’ll feed your curiosity later.”
“You think I want to know because I’m curious? How about Icarefor you?”
She gripped her stomach and bit down on her lip to gain control. She let up when she tasted blood and felt it run down her chin.
“Sweetheart….” he said, coming toward her.
She put her hands out, cowered, and screamed. “No … .don’t touch me.” She looked at the window to see it was partially open. If she could just have two seconds, she could push the screen out of the way, open the window a bit wider, and go.
When he took another step closer, she turned and started pushing the screen.
“Whoa, what the hell are you doing?” Sebastian yelled as he headed to cut her off.
“I’m leaving.”
He pulled her away from the window. “We’re on the sixth floor. You would have died, Baby.”
She yelled. “Yes. I know. It’s my life to do whatever I want.”
“Not when I’m around.”
She yanked her arm away so hard she knew it would leave bruises.
“Goddammit,” he cursed. “Why can’t you talk to me? I thought we were friends, and you know I care about you.”
Her head shook. “We’re not friends, and we never will be, and we can’t even be fuck buddies because you find me disgusting, too.” She turned her back to him. “God, I hate men,” she whispered. She couldn’t see that changing anytime soon.
