He loved the spark of excitement, desire, and joy, but he still caught the shadow of insecurity and fear he knew would take time for her to get over.

“I want to hold you at night and wake up with you every morning.”

Sage looked away for a moment and then back. “I … I’d like to try.”

He smiled in satisfaction. “That’s good. Let’s make some dinner and then cuddle on the sofa and watch a movie before bed.”

“I’d like that.”

“Good.” He lifted her head with a finger under her chin. “First, I need a kiss.”

Sebastian lowered his head and pressed his lips against hers for a moment before he lifted and stared down at her. “You are so fucking perfect for me.”

Sage practically vibrated, and her smile grew. He couldn’t take another moment and took her lips the way he’d been dreaming about.

He raised his head and concentrated on calming his heart. He was amazed that it barely took anything for this little woman to make him lose his mind.

“Jesus, Baby. I need to feed you before this gets out of control.” He gripped her chin. “And don’t for one second think I don’t want you.” He picked up her hand and pressed it against his erect cock. The damn thing had never ached like it did at that moment. “Does this feel like I’m not affected?”

She shook her head.

“Good.” He pulled her hand away from his cock when her grip on it tightened. Jesus, it wouldn’t take much for him to come. He lifted her off the counter, made sure a few of the buttons on the shirt she wore were secure, took her hand, and led her into the kitchen.

For the next hour, they made a simple meal together and sat and talked about everyday things. He wanted to keep it simple, so she’d stay as relaxed as she was at the moment.

After they cleaned the kitchen, he got them settled on the sofa. He had an arm around her shoulders and used the other to find a movie for them. He chose a comedy because he needed to see her happy and laugh.

He knew when she fell asleep against him and tucked her tighter against his side. Jesus, he would never get tired of holding her.

He reached and turned off the TV before lifting her in his arms and taking her to the bedroom. He tucked her in.

“I’ll be right back,” he said, even though she was still asleep.

Sebastian walked into the bathroom, stripped off his clothing, and stepped into the shower. He rushed through his shower because he was concerned she’d wake up afraid.

He brushed his teeth and turned off the lights except for the bathroom, but he closed it until only a crack of light came through. He wanted her to be able to see right away if she woke up disoriented. He’d leave it on as long as he felt she needed it. When she trusted him completely, they’d turn off the light.

In the bed, he maneuvered her until her back was against his chest. Her scent filled the air and made it harder to relax. His body needed hers with a passion he’d never experienced before.

It was going to be a long night, but he wouldn’t change anything. He was happy as long as he had her in his arms.

Chapter Fourteen

Sage blinked her eyes open. The sun was coming in through the window. She had no idea what time it was, and she didn’t care right then. It was nice to rest. Her breath caught in her throat when a band of muscle wrapped around her waist and pulled her back against a broad, hard chest.

“Good morning, Sweetheart,” Sebastian said.

She looked over her shoulder and tried to remember how she’d gotten in bed with him.

“What happened?” she asked.

“You fell asleep, so I carried you to bed. I plan on doing that a lot.”

She grinned when his eyebrows rose and fell in a comical way.

“Good morning,” she murmured.

The air around them sizzled with a heated passion. She had never felt this much desire for anyone. It thrilled her, but at the same time it scared her. What if she couldn’t go through with having sex with him?
