The first look Sebastian had of her when the elevator doors opened shocked him. She looked like a manic, terrified woman ready to break apart.
“What in the world happened?” he asked as he grabbed her arm to keep her from running.
She started screaming and fighting like she was fighting for her life. He couldn’t have anyone else see her like this and started pulling her toward his place. She went crazy, and his concern built to a dimension it never had before.
He felt a little better having her locked into his place until she tried to go out the window and commit suicide. When she was across the room from the window with her back to him, he pulled out his phone and texted Cason to get a doctor. Cason answered, and then Sebastian shoved his phone into his pocket.
Now, he had to keep her as calm as possible and wait.
When he heard her say she hated men, it felt like an arrow had plunged through his heart. What had happened that night that he was too stupid to know? She’d gone from a passionate woman who was blowing his head off to a distant person who wanted nothing to do with him. He had thought it was the headache that caused it that night, but then she avoided him as much as she could. He was tired of it and had planned to corner her in her office or apartment and find out the problem.
He knew she’d been hiding from him and was giving her time, and it was the worst thing he could have done.
“I understand why you hate those men…”
She turned to face him, and his concern rose because of how pale she was and the tight grip she had on her arms. He knew she had no idea she was tearing her skin with her nails and had blood dripping.
“No. I hate all men.”
“What about Cason?” he asked.
Her eyes flickered and then blanked again.
“I d-don’t know,” she stuttered.
“You know he would never hurt you, and I know you don’t believe it, but I wouldn’t either.” He held up his hand when she started to talk. “No. I’m not sure what happened, but I will fix it. Sweetheart, I can be a dumbass. I have no idea what I did. You started shutting down after we stopped making out.”
She laughed. “Yes. I know.”
His brows pinched together. “We stopped because it was heading to making love, and I didn’t want to pressure you.”
“Or, you realized who you had in your arms and got disgusted. I don’t blame you. I’m disgusted with myself and thought I could eventually be better. But I’ll never be better.”
“That’s bullshit. I’ve never been disgusted with you. You’ve been traumatized, and I was terrified of scaring you. Instead, it looks like I unfortunately pushed you away when that was the last thing I wanted. I’ve been attracted to you from the minute I saw you.”
She laughed. “Let’s cut the bullshit. What I do is none of your fucking business. If you keep me here any longer, I will press charges against you.”
He sighed. “For one thing, we need to talk about your potty mouth, but I know now is not the time. Two, I don’t care about the charges. It won’t stop me from helping you. I’ll eventually get it through your head that I care about you.”
She started getting mad again. “My potty mouth? Are you fucking kidding me? You have the nerve… You have no say over anything I do.”
“That’s bullshit. We’ll get past this.”
She screamed and started throwing anything she could get her hands on at him. He dodged but didn’t try to catch her. He let her have this outlet until a doctor got there.
For the next thirty minutes, he tried reasoning with her, but it just seemed to piss her off more.
Sebastian heard the knock and exhaled. “Come in.”
She froze and wiped her face, leaving a streak of blood behind to mix with the sweat. She looked totally confused when Cason and another man walked in.
“Sebastian, this is the doctor, Alex.”
“I would say it’s nice to meet you, but I’m too terrified right now. I don’t know what to do.” Sebastian swallowed.
“What happened?” Alex asked.
“I don’t know. I found her on the elevator, and she went nuts when I tried to talk to her.”
