Lyric made a clicking sound behind her teeth. “I can’t impose on Betty any longer than I have to. She’s been so good to me, but I need to move out as soon as I can.”
“If you say so. How’s it going with Asa?”
“Amazing. It’s better than I could have imagined. I’ve never been in love before.”
“Oh, girl. You are in deep. You sure about this?”
“Never been so sure in my life.”
Wendy rested her back against the seat. “Wow. This is big.”
Lyric focused her attention on the road ahead. “I want bigger. I want it all. With him.”
“Sounds like you’ve got it all.”
“I feel like I do.”
They pulled into the parking lot of the flower shop, and Wendy pointed. “Take me to the side door.”
Another car was already in the lot, and Lyric parked beside it. “I can’t believe you get to play with flowers all day.”
“It’s a dream.” Wendy rubbed her hands together and breathed into them. “Thanks for the ride.”
“Anytime.”
“I do not want to get out in this cold.”
“I don’t blame you.” Lyric grabbed her scarf off the dash. “Take this.”
Wendy wrapped it around her neck. “You’re the best.” She jumped out and made a run for the door, only stopping to give Lyric a small wave.
Who knew starting her day by helping someone would be the key to happiness? Well, that and the dozen other things in her life that were going so much better than she deserved. Maybe Asa was right when he said she should give it all to the Lord. She’d done a lot of praying when things were spiraling, and He’d come through in numerous ways.
The clock on the dash read 6:37 when she pulled up at Blackwater Restoration. She had some timebefore her shift started. Her phone in the console rang, and she answered quickly.
“Hey, Mom.”
“Hey. Your dad and I might be a little later than we expected this afternoon. Melody just called and said she had a last-minute meeting come up after work.
“That’s okay. Do we need to reschedule?”
“Hmm. Maybe. Are you free tomorrow for dinner?”
“Let me talk to Asa and see if he is. I’d love for you to meet him while you’re in town.”
“Oh, yes. That would be good. I’ll just wait to hear back from you.”
“Thanks. I’ll call him right now. I love you.”
“I love you too. Talk to you soon,” her mother said before ending the call.
With a few minutes left before her shift, she dialed Asa’s number and turned off the car.
He answered quickly with, “Good morning, beautiful.”
Wow. Who knew three little words could steal the breath from her lungs?
“Good morning to you too. I just talked to Mom, and she said they might have to reschedule dinner tonight. She wants to know if you’re free tomorrow for dinner.”
