“Look, Camilla was just a girl I used to fuck, okay?”

“If that is the case, why do you seem so mad talking about her?”

“Do you want me to laugh instead?” I pause to catch my breath. “I’m not some monster, Jane. She was a whore, but she was a friend and a human being. What kind of man would I be if I didn’t care about her in the slightest? She was innocent and she died because of my family.”

“Well—” She huffs. “Do you really believe the Bratva were the ones who killed her and stole from you?”

“It had to be them.”

“Maybe they weren’t innocent, but what if someone else took the chance to attack while you were distracted dealing with the Russians?”

I understand what she’s saying. My brother let his guard down with Victor Valentes. Protecting Elena and Lucas was all he could think of at the time, it’s still all he can think of now.

His brain cells have sadly gone on hiatus and can I blame him? That’s what emotion like that does to a man. Now I have to work extra hard at actually keeping the family safe and all on my own.

It doesn’t help that all Vincent wants to do is drink and sleep with a different girl every night. “Can you look into Victor Valentes? I can provide details of his illegal businesses.”

She nods. “Sure. I can do that.”

“Good.” I look around the living room one more time. “You haven’t offered me anything.”

Jane tilts her head curiously. “What do you mean?”

“Don’t people offer their guests water, alcohol, coffee?”

A smile spreads on her face but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “I could offer you something.” She points at the door. “Or would you prefer to leave? The meeting is over.”

I rest back in my seat, my eyes skimming her legs and sending bolts of electricity surging through me. “Thanks for offering, but no. I’d rather stay here with you. We can warm your bed if you like.”

She hisses, glaring at me. “No.”

“I thinkyesis the word you’re looking for.”

“Okay, that’s enough for one night.” She stands up, strides to me and grabs my hand. “You should leave now.”

Her touch is warm and tender and not enough. Heat rushes to my cock. This woman is fearless trying to pull me up, she doesn’t even recognize danger when it’s staring right at her.

I grab her hand and pull her forward. She loses balance and falls, her soft body colliding with my legs.

She gasps and tries to stand. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—”

I pull her back down, making her straddle me and sniffing her in like she’s cocaine. God, she smells so good. I’m intoxicated. “Sit here and don’t make a move.”

“Marcus—”

“Shh.” I place my index finger on her plump, pink lips to shut her up, then I caress them, trailing over the work of perfection.

I feel the warmth of her breath on my finger and the way her body tenses at my touch. Her breaths hitches, the pounding of her heart loud enough for me to hear.

What I do next is totally unintended. My body jerks forward in one fluid motion, my face in line with hers.

Then I claim her lips, kissing her like my life depends on it.

Chapter Seven

Jane

My body freezes, my heart thudding hard against my ribcage as he kisses me. I try to resist him; to not kiss back or react to the way his lips glide over mine.
