Suddenly, the door to the room opened, and Ella walked in, wearing an apron, and looking as tired as me.
“Told you this place was something beyond your wildest dreams.”
“It will take a whole army to keep this place running smoothly, fuck why do you all need all this space for?” I asked, shocked. “Girl, this room can contain our flat in LA.”
“You should ask my brother when you see him. I asked him once, and he said it showed class and power.”
“Is he trying to be the president one day?”
Ella reached beside her and removed her apron, “I am telling you, I have no idea what goes in my brother’s head most of the time right now. All I want to do is to lock myself in a room and sleep for a very long time.”
I smiled and nodded in agreement, “Sounds like the perfect plan. How many rooms are in this place anyway?”
“Too many to count!” Ella smirked, “Why do you ask?”
Before I could answer, we heard the sizzling sound of a helicopter blaring outside.
Surprised, I turned to Ella to find her shaking her head, “Talk of the devil.” She stood and moved close to the window and opened the curtains slightly.
I jumped from the bed and moved toward her, and together we saw the helicopter land on its spot.
From a close view, the helicopter was neat and had the initials M.B., for his name, I suppose. Soon the door opened, and slowly, Mason Blackwood, stepped out of it looking impeccable.
He was donning a custom-made red suit, which I was sure had cost a fortune, while wearing black sunglasses.
He waved at the pilot, turned, and began to stroll into the compound like a Greek God gracing the earth with his presence.
My mouth went dry just watching him move and look around his vast compound, trying to be aware of his surroundings.
I felt a tug at my side and turned to see Ella looking at me with a frown. “Ready to go meet the devil’s spawn?”
“You are making me nervous,” I said with a nervous laugh. “I am not sure if I am ready or not!”
“Yeah, I know. One can never really be ready to meet him. Just be yourself and hope he ignores you as soon as possible.” Without another word, she turned and left the room to welcome her brother while I stayed back, trying to draw up just enough courage.
I adjusted my clothes, took a deep breath, and moved toward the door to meet the man I had heard so many negatives about.
CHAPTER TWO
MASONBLACKWOOD
“How’s everything going, Jonah?” I asked Jonah, the House Manager, while I stretched my left hand toward him to be given the weekly reports of the household.
He nodded and gave the book to me. “Everything is going well, sir. Your sister, Ella, joined us a few days ago, and it’s been seamless handling things.”
I nodded in approval, acknowledging his statement as I reviewed the file. “Good to hear. Where is she now?” I asked as we entered a hall leading to the main suite.
“She’s probably somewhere with her friend,” Jonah muttered after a slight pause.
Shocked by such information, I stopped and turned toward Jonah, “With her friend? What friend?”
Jonah stepped back a bit, his gaze moving across the hallway, probably seeking a way to disappear.
I moved closer to him. “What friend, Jonah.”
“I . . . she . . .” He began, stuttering. “A friend of hers. She’s been working hard too, and has helped to keep things going around here.”
“Who said a total stranger could move into my home without my notice?” I asked, trying hard to control my fury.
