“You disrespect me because you have learned from my sister.”
“Disrespect you? That is ridiculous. I am a grown woman, and you are talking to me like I am a child. You act as if I should be afraid of you somehow, but I am perfectly capable of protecting myself,” I muttered while moving close to him as he opened my MacBook and began to look at its screen. “You should stop, like really stop. What are you looking for?”
“I am looking for the real reason that you are here.”
“What do you mean? I am here helping Ella with your stupid party because you had her so stressed out,” I said angrily. “I am her friend, her best friend to be exact. Something you likely know nothing about,” I continued.
“Ah, you’re a smart-ass, too,” Mason said with a smirk on his face.
“Precisely, yes. So, what is it exactly that you are expecting to find out about me? That I am a secret agent or something,” I asked with the smart-ass tone he just accused me of being.
“One can never be too certain of what I may or may not find out about you,” Mason said as he winked at me.
I dismissed him and then laughed. “Oooh, I am so scared. Be careful of the girl who grew up on a farm.”
“Farm girls tend to be the worst ones of all,” Mason said with a bit of a laugh.
“Well, I hate to disappoint you, but this farm girl is the exception to the rule. My life is pretty boring, and I like it that way,” I said to Mason and turned away from him to put some of my things into the dresser drawers.
“I guess we will have to wait and see what I find out.”
“And how are you planning to discover this secret information that you think I have?” I said as I turned back towards him catching his eyes looking straight at me, almost as if he was staring into my soul.
Even though he was annoying the shit out of me, he was so handsome. His jaw-line sharp, his piercing eyes, his shoulders broad.
I felt myself attracted to him, which annoyed me at the thought of it. I watched his lips as he spoke and pictured myself with my lips pressed to his.
“It’s a no-brainer. Do a thorough check of everything you brought into my home.”
“You are unbelievable.”
“Being attentive security-wise has been why I am still standing here with you.”
“You should not be doing this. Heck, you have done a background check on me, found nothing, and are rummaging through my files anyways.”
“I am handling it with care.”
I stood firmly and glared at him, “Stop right this minute.”
He continued looking at my stuff, ignoring me.
“Mason Blackwood.”
He sighed and pulled away from my stuff before putting his hands back inside his pockets. “Ordering me in my own home, you do not stop to amaze me.”
“I don’t like when someone goes through my property like that,” I muttered as I reached the table and began to arrange my stuff back to its typical setup.
Mason rolled his eyes as he moved away from me. “You know you can fool my ever-trusting mother and my never-worried sister, but you can’t fool me.”
I ignored him and continued doing what I was doing.
“Mom can’t stop talking about how you wanted to reject her gift,” He chuckled, shook his head, and continued, “She claims that no one has ever tried to turn her gifts down, and is slightly offended. Of course, my sister thought you were crazy for not wanting the necklace, but do you know what I think?”
I ignored him, allowing him to go ahead and think whatever he wanted, knowing there was nothing I would ever say that would change his mind.
“I think you are biding your time, waiting for the perfect time to strike and take the bigger prize.”
I scoffed and shook my head Ella’s brother seemed more stupid than I thought. “Which is?”
