“He really said he wanted to be with me?” I asked her, a sense of joy spiraling through me.
She grinned. “Not actually, but technically.”
“What about you? Do you forgive me?”
“I’m still a little annoyed. And disgusted, ew, my brother! But I will be fine” She replied, drawing closer to me. “Even though I was so very mad at you. I missed you so much. You are my best friend.”
I smiled and held her body too. “I missed you too.”
“Ella.” Eve, who was still confused, called out to her daughter. “Do you know who this James is?”
“Yeah, I think—”
Before Ella could finish, there was a loud knock at the door. Mom stood to open the door and there stood James.
“With the cars I saw outside, it seems you guys have started the party without . . .” he stopped midway as he recognized those sitting in the room.
“Thank heavens, with the look on your faces,” Dad began, staring at Eve and James, “It seems my verdict was right after all. Your son was lying.”
For a moment, it felt like everything blacked out in front of me.
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
MASONBLACKWOOD
I worriedly walked around my private suite in Josh’s hotel while looking at my phone, waiting for Mom or Ella’s call.
Josh, who had been playing GTA, dropped the controller, turned, and removed his headset. “Man, you gotta chill out. You said yourself they agreed to help you reason out with her.” Josh said as he stood from the bed and began to walk toward me.
“Yeah, they did.” I cursed, “But it’s been hours since I last heard from them. At least they could have updated me on how everything’s going.”
“Maybe they haven’t left your mom’s friend’s place.”
“They did. Ella sent me a picture at eight in the morning. It’s ten now, and they are not responding to my messages. It’s not as if the place is that far.”
“God, man,” Josh muttered as he walked outside the terrace and stared at the beautiful city. “Every day, I see a reason not to fall in love because you do the most ridiculous things.”
“This doesn’t have to do with love. I am just trying to ensure everything is going fine.”
Josh laughed and turned to look at me. “Then why don’t you go over there and see things for yourself?”
I paused, and sighed, “My people don’t even know I am here.”
“What?” Josh asked and burst into laughter.
I grabbed my hair, frustrated. “Don’t blame me. I had some other business around, so I thought I could wait.”
“Lies, man. Oh God, you are so lost in love.”
“I am not lost in love.” I countered.
“You have to give me a chance to meet the girl that has madetheMason Blackwood so intoxicated in love,” he shouted, laughing hysterically again, driving me up the wall.
“Fuck you, man.” I turned away and headed to the kitchen when a message dropped on my phone. I sighed and looked at it. It was a message from Ella that read,We need you here now.
I muttered a curse, turned, and put the phone in my pocket while hastily approaching the door.
Josh sat up. “Where are you going, man?”
