“All right, all right,” The doctor said, “I will get going then. You heard me well, right, don’t stress her further, she’s too weak, and just in case you need any other assistance, I am one call away.” With that, he smiled and left the room for us.

Mason groaned as he left the table and began to walk around the room. His demeanor seemed to calm a little as he looked out the window. “You need to take care of yourself and our baby.”

“Our baby? We barely even know each other. I am going to leave,” I muttered, feeling too weak to cry. “I just need to get out of here, so I can think. Alone.”

“And go where?” He asked, “We obviously know each other enough. You have my fucking baby inside you.”

“Please, Mason—”

“Lucy, please. Stay. There is no need for you to leave.”

“What do you want from me?” I cried, and the door opened immediately, and Ella and Eve walked into it anxiously to find me crying and Mason walking around the room.

“What the hell is going on, Mason?” Ella cried as she rushed towards me and climbed on the bed. “God, your eyes are so fucking red it feels like they could fall off any minute. What did you do to her, Mason?”

I shot him a glance, and he shrugged. “I didn’t do anything.”

“This is more than I have seen her cry my entire life, and you are saying you did nothing?” Ella muttered as she reached forward, wiped my eyes, and placed my head on her shoulder. “Everything’s okay, Ella, don’t worry. I will be feeling well enough to leave soon.”

“She’s not going anywhere.” Mason retorted, “The doctor said she needs as much rest as possible.”

“She will get it in our home,” Ella said.

“She needs lots of rest, supervised rest as the doctor says she is very dehydrated.” Mason continued, frowning.

“I will be there for her. I work mostly at home if that’s your worry.”

“Ella . . .”

“Everybody just calm down, all right? Just calm down,” I said. “I am going to be fine. I am a little hungry, and a little sleepy,” I said as I looked up at the IV pole that was giving me medication.

“That’s why—”

“Ella, can you just . . .”

Ella sighed and stopped talking.

Eve turned to Mason. “What did the doctor say is her ailment?”

Mason paused for moments, sighed, and scratched his jaw, “He said she needed as much supervised rest as possible, and he will be coming around for more checkups.”

“Is it true, Lucy?”

I bit my lips. My life was hanging in the balance now. I moved away from her, wiped my eyes, and quickly breathed. “Yeah, he’s right.”

Mason stood and rubbed his palm, “That settles it, Ella. You should call the House Manager and have her things moved to the VIP suite immediately. While at it, assign four staff to attend to her every single need. She should neither lift her hand to do anything nor have anything denied from her, I will have the doctor phone in the food diet she needs to take and I expect that to be followed.”

I took the pillow and rested my hand on it as I watched, Ella and her mom stared at Mason like someone who had just dropped from the sky.

Mason frowned and looked at us. “By any chance, is there anything you don’t understand?”

“Go get the staff . . . no, you know what,” He scratched his head, “I will go and get it ready. You stay with her.” Mason turned and walked away while Eve and Ella stared at each other worriedly.

“I have never seen him so rattled about something before.” Ella began before turning toward me. “What did the doctor say your ailment was to have my brother so worried? Are you going to die?”

“Of course, she’s not going to die,” Eve said for the first time since coming into the room as she moved close to us and sat on the bed. “Her color is getting better, unlike before. Maybe all she needs is rest.”

I nodded in agreement, praying Ella didn’t continue being more inquisitive. “Once I rest, I think I will be better.”
