I couldn’t breathe at all.

I was gasping and choking, and I didn’t know what to do.

“Claudia!” Pablo jumped to his feet, rushing to me.

He wrapped his arms around me.

“Hey, Claudia!” He placed his hand on my cheek. “Look at me. Everything’s going to be okay. The twins are going to be fine. Whatever Benjamin intends to do with them, it won’t happen immediately, okay? We have time. We’ll find them.”

“What if we don’t? This guy has so many hideouts and—” I could barely hold back the tears, but Pablo’s touch was helping me catch my breath.

“I think I know where they might be.”

“You do?”

“I can’t know for sure, but I have my suspicions. You’re right. I’ve been watching Benjamin and his traffickers a lot because I wanted to make sure your family believed they had you.”

“Does my family know about it too? I mean, are they on their way? If you sent them in the right direction, they might find the twins instead of me, right?” I wished more than anything that I could call my family, but I didn’t think Pablo would agree to that.

And the twins were the only thing that mattered now. I didn’t want my family to come all the way here to save me from Pablo when the twins were in danger.

I didn’t want to affect what they were doing in any way because my involvement might ruin everything.

“No, I don’t think they know. They’re checking out a place in the opposite direction,” he said.

“Okay, but you can investigate the location you suspect, right? It’ll be fine. My family will check that other place, and you’ll check this one.” I looked deep into his eyes.

Maybe I was a fool for trusting him, but I could see it in his eyes that, deep down, he was a good person.

He’d always been.

Or he wouldn’t have spared my life.

Sure, he might have gone the wrong way about some things, but I could understand that now that I knew exactly what had happened to him.

“Yeah. I’ll send my men to check it out right away,” he said. “Are you okay?”

I gave him a small nod.

I’d be fine once the twins were safe again.
