I tapped the screen.

A blood-curling scream filled the room as the recording started.

“They have the twins!”A woman cried in desperation as if someone had just taken everything from her.

Her voice sounded familiar.

Stella?

“They have my babies!”

A gasp behind my back made me spin around.

Claudia clamped her hand over her mouth, her eyes wide with worry. “Someone kidnapped the twins?”

I read the note that had come with the recording. “Yes.”

“Who did it?” Her face was pale.

“Benjamin Romano. He’s the trafficker who your sister’s husband and your father have been trying to catch.”

“That recording you played for me... You made my family believe that Benjamin guy had me.”

I cursed under my breath.

It was my fault. I hadn’t seen this coming.

No, wrong.

I hadn’t even thought about it because I’d been so caught up in myself.

And now...

“You set Benjamin up, right? That means you’ve been watching him and his operations. You can do something about it. You can save my niece and nephew! Please!” She rushed to me, clasping her hands in front of her, her eyes pleading with me. “Kill me if you want to. Do with me whatever the hell you want. But please don’t let someone else die because of me! They’re just babies! Sweet, innocent babies! I can’t—”

Her whole body shook as she sobbed.

I pulled her into my embrace, just wanting her to stop crying. How could she even think this was her fault?

How the fuck had Benjamin gotten his hands on Stella and Dante’s children? They should’ve been perfectly well protected.

Well, it’s your fucking fault, so fix it!

Did you really think Benjamin and Claudia’s family were just going to dance around each other?

“It’s going to be okay,” I said, caressing her hair. “We’ll find the kids. Nothing bad will happen to them.”
