Kill me?
“How am I still alive then?” I asked softly.
He looked away from me. “Enough of this nonsense. I expect the food to be on the table in five minutes.”
Had he let me go? Had he refused to kill me? Was that why I was here now? Or was there something else?
Maybe I hadn’t just gotten the guards killed.
Maybe I’d ruined Pablo’s life too.
Sent him on a path he should never have taken.
If only I’d stayed away from him.
He wouldn’t have had confirmation that Stella was there. She wouldn’t have run to get me right in front of him.
That had to be how he’d figured it all out. She’d come running for me to get me away from him because she’d been worried about me, and he’d recognized her.
I had so many questions now, but I didn’t know if I could get Pablo to answer them.
