Epilogue

I PULLED THE TRAY WITHcookies out of the oven. Christmas was always such a busy time of the year, and I was barely standing on my feet.

But my whole family was here, and I just had to bake some cupcakes and cookies for them.

“Are you sure you don’t need any help?” my mom yelled from the hallway.

“Yeah! I’ll be right there. Just go take a seat.” I placed the cookies on a plate and rushed to the dining room.

“No wonder your business is thriving,” Lorenzo said, eyeing the cookies. “These look delicious.”

“Thanks.” I flashed him a smile as I put the plate on the table.

My little cookie store was getting more and more popular every day, and I was thinking about expanding my business and opening more stores all over the city.

Luckily, there were no enemies dumb enough to go against our family that was getting bigger and bigger.

My gaze fell on the cupcakes.

One of them looked as if someone had dug through it.

I furrowed my brow.

“What happened here?” I picked up the cupcake.

Everyone was strangely quiet.

Something glittered inside the cupcake, and I reached for it.

“What?” I pulled out a ring, my eyes widening. “How did that get—”

“Claudia, will you marry me?” Pablo asked as he went down on one knee in front of me.

I gasped. “Yes! Oh, my god, yes!”

When he got to his feet, I wrapped my arms tightly around him.

Everyone clapped, cheered, and congratulated us.

Pablo took the ring and helped me slide it on my finger.

“See? A perfect fit,” Stella said. “You shouldn’t have worried.”

Pablo only flashed her a smile.

Excitement danced in my chest as everyone hugged me and congratulated me once again.

“Everyone, please take a seat. The food will go cold,” I said.

As I was about to sit down, a wave of nausea overcame me.

“Honey, are you okay?” my dad asked.

“Yeah, I’m just... It’s been a long day. It’s probably excitement.” Or I caught some bug or something.

“Come with me,” Stella said.

I followed her to the bathroom. Maybe I just needed to splash some water over my face.
