“Follow me,” he said.
I trailed after him down another huge hallway, and then he opened a door that led to a stairway. We climbed up and up until we reached another door.
What kind of house was this? A castle with a tower? It sure as hell felt like it.
I squinted as we emerged onto the roof that was bathed in sunshine.
A gasp escaped my lips as I spun around.
No matter in which direction I looked, there were only endless fields and trees. How was that possible? Where the hell were we? How was my family going to find me here?
Pablo was going to see them coming.
Worry squeezed my insides, even as the warm rays of sunshine caressed my skin.
I inched closer to the edge of the roof, trying to see the guards or any other detail that might help me, even though I wasn’t sure how I’d ever get out of here.
But I had to be ready for anything.
Just as I leaned forward, Pablo grabbed me from behind.
I yelped, a shudder running through me. For a second, I thought he was going to push me over the edge, and I would fall to my death.
His arms were tight around my waist as he leaned in, his lips brushing my ear. “Don’t go so close to the edge, princess.”
He yanked me back then, spinning me around so I ended up pressed against his strong chest.
His eyes bored into mine, his lips close to mine.
His gaze lowered to my mouth, but then he stepped away from me, and I let out a small gasp.
“Let’s go back inside. It’s enough for today,” he said.
I was slightly out of breath.
I glanced over my shoulder before going after him.
Was I ever going to get out of here alive?
I had no answer to that question.
