“Look, we’ve all known Seth a long time now. Sure, he’s protective of Simone, but he’s also a reasonable person who respects you a ton. You just have to be honest with him. He’ll get it… eventually. And he of all people can see the effect Simone has on men. It's not like you were going to be able to keep it in your pants forever.”
“Sure. No, I know. You’re right.”
“As usual.” Dom checked the time on his phone. “Well, I have a patient coming in, but I hadn’t seen you in a while and needed to give you a hard time.”
“Oh, thanks for fitting me into your busy schedule.”
“Anytime, man.”
I flipped him off as he laughed his way out the door. As soon as it clicked shut, I sunk into my chair and pulled out the envelope that arrived in the mail earlier that day.
The mark of U.S. Immigration seemed to glow like a beacon. I opened it, not quite sure what to expect. As I pulled the papers out and quickly skimmed, my heart froze. It was official. I could stay in the U.S. as long as I wanted – for the rest of my life, if I so desired. I had no reason to be forced to marry Simone anymore.
Except I did have one reason: I was in love with Simone Grant.
Chapter 19
Simone
“This is the last box, I promise.”
It was unseasonably warm for early June and Hugo's skin glowed with sweat from the effort of carrying my boxes from the truck. He wore a gray T-shirt that was clinging to his muscles as it darkened with dampness.
Honestly, I’d never seen anything sexier.
“That’s what you said about the last box.”
“Okay, I was lying then. But I’m being honest now.”
“Sure.”
My laughter bounced off the walls of the foyer. Hugo lived in a gorgeous Cambridge townhouse that had gorgeous hardwood floors, bright walls, marble counters, and sunny windows. With four bedrooms, it seemed too big for one person, but Hugo seemed to fill it out with a home office – because he was always working – and a guest room. The fourth room was empty –except for a bed – and would be my room. Hugo said I could do whatever I wanted with it, which made me fall even more in love with him.
Then there was his room – well, our room. With a plush area rug, a huge king-size bed, and the most luxurious bathroom in the world.
This place must have cost Hugo a fortune, and I was about to be spoiled beyond belief.
There was even a deck on the second floor and a beautiful patio out back that was perfect for entertaining.
“Well, that looks like it really is everything,” Hugo said, suddenly behind me as I got lost looking at the gleaming kitchen cabinets.
“See, I told you.” I spun around and he pulled me into a kiss.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Hugo murmured against my lips. “I wish I had more time, but I have an emergency consultation this afternoon. But the fridge is fully stocked and feel free to make yourself at home.”
“Oh, do you need help at the office? I’m happy to go in.”
“Nope, it’s your day off. I’ll be home as soon as I can. But definitely plan on having dinner with me tonight, okay?”
I nodded, all too happy to plan any time with him.
He gave me one light kiss and was out the door. I suddenly felt very alone in the large space and pulled out my phone to text Lindsey. She was at the door within fifteen minutes, all too excited to see when I was living.
“This place is huge,” Lindsey said in awe. “I mean, I figured he was rich. But not, like, richrich. This is insane. “
We got some wine and snacks from the kitchen – Hugo wasn’t lying about it being fully stocked – and went out to the patio.
“So, what’s the plan now?” Lindsey always knew how to ask the most complicated questions.
