“If he’s complaining that means he’s feeling better at least,” Bane commented as he carefully scooted down the couch to where I was laying.

“Is there something I can help you with?” I batted my eyelashes at him, holding my iPad close so he couldn’t see that I was working.

After talking with Valentina for a few hours yesterday about the food truck, Romeo stated that I couldn’t work anymore.

Resting apparently did not mean working.

I just didn’t happen to agree so I snuck my work docs onto my iPad to work on recipes. If I enjoyed doing it, was it really work?

“Actually there is,” he smirked and snuggled as close as he could get without hurting his battered body. “Talk me through those recipes or I’ll have to tell Romeo you’re not resting.”

“Hey!” I protested but couldn’t keep the laughter from my voice. I’d been called out.

“I second Bane’s request,” Damien commented in a sleep-roughened voice from the other side of the room. “I need a distraction from how long it will take before I can ride again.”

They wouldn’t be riding for at least a few weeks given their injuries and I knew that all three of them were upset about it. So, I started going over ideas for the food truck. As soon as Romeo came in, helping Loki walk, he shot me a stern glare as I went over a new recipe concept.

“How about I work for the next hour and then we all watch a movie?” I offered, giving him my best pouty, puppy-dog eyes.

“Fine,” he sighed dramatically. “But just because you didn’t listen I’m picking the movie.” I pursed my lips thinking over our horror movie date and what that could mean for me. “If you take a break now then you can pick the movie.”

“An interesting deal,” I told him before curling my lips into a crooked half smile. “But I’ll let you pick in an hour.”

The guys all offered ideas for new foods to add while Bane combed his fingers through my hair.

Loki had some very strong opinions on what kind of burgers to offer while Romeo helped brainstorm ideas for fun names.

Damien was mostly silent, offering suggestions or ideas here and there but mostly he just seemed quietly happy in the midst of our pack.

Bane offered to taste test whatever I came up with when I asked if he had any thoughts.

Romeo set off some kind of timer signaling the end of my work time. As promised, I put it away and then watched in horror as Romeo started up Annabelle.

Creepy fucking dolls.

He was doing this on purpose.

Sure enough I looked over to find him watching me with a shit-eating grin.

But payback was a bitch.

I carefully maneuvered my foot that was in a cast and snuggled up carefully to Bane.

“I’ll be fine with Bane here,” I told the beta sweetly, loving the spark of jealousy and laughter in his gaze as he pushed his black hair out of his face.

“It seems I miscalculated.”

“No complaints here,” Bane murmured, snuggling his face into my neck and inhaling deeply. The scent of oak moss and lemon surrounded me, making me feel safe and protected in his arms.

Now I just had to wait until the shoe dropped and they all felt better so they could yell at me about running in, guns blazing, to save them. At least I had back up… Though that wasn’t through my own choice.

A small detail they didn’t need to know.

“So,a birdy told me you tried to sneak out of the hospital… alone,” a deep voice growled in my ear, waking me up.
