Hazel gave me a gentle nudge to go to him when we stood outside of it for a few seconds without going in.

They waited outside as I stepped forward, my eyes burning as I looked down at my alpha. He looked so strange here. Hisface would have shown him resting peacefully if I could see his expression past all the machines and IVs.

Instead, he was bloody and bruised. He had so many bandages over his torso that he honestly looked partially like a mummy at this point. Whatever they had done to him left his face swollen and I could just make out staples under the gauze wrapped around his head.

“Oh, Damien,” I let out a broken whisper as I skimmed my fingers over his palm and into his hand. He didn’t curl his fingers protectively around mine like he normally did and I could practically feel my heart breaking.

Whoever did this was going to pay for it.

Pulling out my phone I tried Loki and Bane again. I couldn’t shake the sick feeling that was settling in my gut.

Two of my men were radio silent and one of my alphas was under heavy sedation. How had my life taken this turn?

Instead of breaking down, I felt that eerie, cold calm consume me. It started in my mind and seemed to leak through my body like paint dripping down, coating my skin and detaching me from the moment completely.

“Eliza?” Hazel asked. Her voice was distorted but I put on a fake smile and shook my head.

“I’m fine, I just need to use the bathroom really quick, okay?” I offered. My voice sounded just as strange, but it was steady.

Her black eyebrows raised but they shifted out of my way and let me pass. I walked down the hall and felt their eyes on me until I turned the corner.

Instead of going to the bathroom, I slipped into the stairwell and took them two at a time as I headed downstairs. My phone had Uber pulled up before I even stepped out of the hospital into the parking lot.

“Where the hell are we going?” Hazel asked. I jumped, letting out a startled screech as her hand locked onto my shoulder.

“Are we kicking ass?” Alessandro asked, his face splitting into a wide, deadly smile.

“That was the plan,” I said, not bothering to hide now that I’d been caught. “You driving? I rode with Romeo. The sooner we leave, the better. Loki and Bane aren’t answering.”

“Are we starting at the compound?” Hazel asked.

“No,” Alessandro admitted. “They were trying to keep you in the dark. I know where they’re at.”

“Then drive,” I instructed. I’d deal with their omissions later. Right now, I needed to make sure they were safe.

If I took a bit of revenge while we were at it? Then that was fine by me.

Chapter

Twenty

Eliza

“Are you sure about this, Eliza?” Alessandro cautioned. I didn’t even turn to look at him as I stared down the street at the men smoking on the sidewalk.

The assholes were taking a smoke break like it was just any other day.

Not the day they were going to pay for what they did.

“Positive,” I said, giving him a stare that conveyed how serious I was. Alessandro grinned back and nodded once, saying silently he heard me.

We were parked further down the road, the tinted windows giving nothing away. Alessandro had stopped on the outskirts of town to load up the floorboards so we weren’t prepping guns and ammo in the middle of town.

We were reckless, not fucking stupid. Then again, I’d have no problem blowing this whole block sky high at the moment. My calm hadn’t left yet, and I knew it wouldn’t any time soon. Not until every one of my guys was safe.

Maybe I wasn’t in the best head space for proper judgment. My gaze flickered to Hazel who didn’t look a single bit worried about what was about to go down. In fact, she was busy rolling a joint as Emiliano watched her with a loving expression of affection and amusement.

“Should we text the others to let them know before we go in?” Hazel asked as our targets let out a loud enough laugh I could hear them down here. One of them was flexing their fingers and glancing down at the bloodied knuckles like it was hilarious.
