Page 94 of Prelude To You

Never had two people needed each other more.

I was the flimsiest of breaths away from this unstoppable ecstasy that threatened to plunge me into a bottomless abyss. “Isabel,’ Roman said in a hoarse whisper, his breath a warm breeze as his lips traced my throat to the nape of my neck. “Take me with you.”

All it took were those four words to push me over the edge, my voice breaking into a raw cry for Roman. He held back those few seconds to watch me break into a million fragments around him, my inner walls clenching around his cock, my release relentlessly tearing through my every muscle, every heartbeat and every breath.

And then Roman slammed into me one more time, his entire body vibrating as he drove himself in as deep as possible, arching over me, his feral groan meeting my cries.

Even entrenched in my own cresting euphoria I could feel his cock pulsing between my thighs as he climaxed, the warmth of his seed spreading in an endless release. Causing another wave to twist itself through me.

And finally, finally we slumped against each other, locked in a perfect moment, the pheromones of our arousal permeating the air. As his nose picked up the scent, Roman’s breath faltered, and with a soft, satisfied grunt his mouth found mine.

His kiss was gentle and deep, like I was his salvation, his sanctuary, and I kissed him back like he was mine. Then he slowly pulled out and lowered himself next to me. I touched his face, my voice soft. “I was a little afraid of this.”

“And what was it you were afraid of?”

I sighed, still relishing this feeling of complete and utter fulfillment. Even if I knew how little it would take to kindle the blaze again. “That it would be this perfect.”

“See, I knew,” he said, kissing the tips of my fingers as I trailed them over his mouth. He brushed loose strands of hair from my cheek and used the back of his hand to caress my face. “I had absolutely no doubt how perfect we would be together. I knew it the moment you called that man a little troll last night.”

I smiled. “To think, in a way that little troll is responsible for us ending up right here.”

“He is. But he was also rude to you. And no one harms you in any way.”

His tone left no doubt that he would crush the fool who tried. And a small part of me wanted to nag Roman and ask why a liaison with me was so forbidden in his world, and more importantly what the consequences might be for breaking the rules.

Then again all I had to do was look around me to be reminded that this was where he belonged, a place I would never have access to unless he was by my side. A glimmer of panic fussed through my veins.

If the sex had been a mediocre affair, the whole rotten situation would have been easier to sweep under the carpet. But the sex was nothing if not magical, every breathtaking moment sensational. I suppressed the sliver of heartache creeping in, unannounced and wholly unwelcome.

Focus. This was a night that had to feed my dreams for a very long time. Panic had no place here. That would come later, muchlater when reality curled its gnarly fingers around my throat and only memories remained. Memories that right now I needed to nurture into wonderful imaginings that I could drag into my dreams every night for the rest of my life.

It was as if Roman sensed my blossoming qualms. He scraped me close and held me tight for an eternal moment before tilting my chin to meet his gaze. “Now those are very big pupils, my sweet. Something I should know?”

A raspy giggle rippled through me. “So are yours, Roman. Would you like me to explain to you why that is?”

“Of course. You are this gorgeous, dancing, talking encyclopedia of marvelous facts. And I want to know them all.”

“Well, we are currently engulfed by the love hormones, oxytocin and dopamine,” I explained while winding my fingers through his hair. “When you’re sexually attracted to someone, your brain gets flooded with these chemicals, which make your hormones go wild, which then causes your pupils to dilate.”

His smile was escorted by a long inhale before he blazed a trail of kisses across the nape of my neck. “Then my pupils must be as big as dinner plates,” he said, pecked the tip of my nose and slid off the bed. “Let me clean you up. Stay right here.”

I stared after him longingly. It was nothing short of mesmerizing to watch a naked Roman stroll to the bathroom, completely unaware of how magnificent he was. He sneaked a look back, as if to catch me admiring his long muscular legs and perfect ass. “Take a picture, it lasts longer,” he said, and grinned affectionately.

My laughter followed him into the bathroom. He popped his head out of the door. “You have to stop laughing. Please. Every time you laugh another erection springs to life. There’s only so much blood I can afford leaving my brain.”

Which of course made me laugh even more. Roman returned with a warm damp towel, and as savagely as he’d fucked me, hecouldn’t be gentler as he wiped me clean, smiling into my eyes the whole time.

“It seems you’re always cleaning me up,” I said.

“I see it as a perk. Don’t judge.”

When he was happy the residue of our pleasure was tamed, he folded the towel neatly and contemplated me. I felt myself get wet all over again under his gaze.

“Let me order a new dinner,” he said.

Of course the financially-challenged woman in me was outraged by the idea. “New dinner? Why? We have a ton of food.”

“It must be cold by now. I’m not going to have you eat cold dinner, Isabel.”
