Hmm. Made just how I like it. Interesting.
Once I finish getting ready for work, I walk out of my room and head straight to my car and drive off.
I receive a call from Siobhan on my way to work. That’s a little surprising, considering the last time we met up, things didn’t go the way I planned. I don’t answer the call, but let it go to voicemail.
Before Aisling came to stay with me, I could distract myself with a date with one of many from my roster. Well…some of the time. Even then, the women were becoming less and less interesting somehow. Talk had become scarcer with them andifI had sex with them at all, it was usually rather quick. Lasting less than an hour typically. Enough to get them off, but hardly enough for myself, if I’m being honest.
Now, the women have lost all of their appeal. The few times I tried having some over, it was only to end up frustrated because nothing happened. I couldn’t just get into things. It’s like I’m broken somehow.
But work has been distracting today. The proposal I’ve made has been finished and I’m ready to send it off to the new client.
I get to my office and start getting to work but my mind escapes me.
Aisling’s little red panties…
“Hey.” Aidan sticks his head in my doorway. “You got a second to chat?”
“Sure,” I look up at him. “What’s going on?”
“Well, I just wanted to go over a few things about the new client. They had some concerns about…”
My mind wanders to the image of Aisling in one of my dress shirts. Unbuttoned with just a hint of her breasts showing…and those damned lacey knickers…
“Hey. Earth to Grant?”
I snap out of my daze and focus on Aidan. “Sorry, I was miles away.”
“No kidding. Are you okay? You seem really distracted lately.”
I pause. Aidan and I go way back. He’s more than just my business partner, he’s always been a close mate of mine.
“I’ve got a problem at home,” I say.
“Oh?” Aidan frowns and shuts the door behind him to give us more privacy. He turns to look at me, “Is it your ma? She’s not gotten any worse, has she?”
“No, no,” I shake my head. “It’s…it’s the nurse I’ve hired for her. I can’t seem to get her off my mind.”
Aidan regards me for a moment, then replies, “Sorry. I don’t get what you mean.”
I sigh. “I think I’ve developed a bit of an attraction to her.”
“Oh.” His eyes widen, and he gives me a knowing teasing look. Then, in all seriousness, he says, “So what?”
“So what?” I echo back. “She’s my employee, mucker. And she’s twenty-three years old. I can’t carry on with a twenty-three-year-old nurse.”
“Why not?” He shrugs. “A lot of blokes do.”
I scoff, “I’m not a lot of blokes. And she’s not like any woman I’ve ever met. She’s sharp and funny…and kind. Just really kind for no other reason than that she is.”
“I’m sorry, mucker, but I don’t see the problem here. If you’re attracted to her, you should take a shot. What’s the worst that can happen?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” I huff. “What if I relapse and take her down with me or take advantage of her by using her to get the pills and relapse. She cares for my ma. And she’s got a little sister to look after. I can’t come in and ruin her life.”
Aidan sighs. “You don’t know that will happen. In fact, you don’t know that anything will happen. All you know for sure is that the more you try not to think about her, the worse it gets.”
“Yeah, no kidding.”
“So, why not try giving in instead? You should give yourself more credit. You are stronger now than before. I mean, the girl could even help you keep on track. Don’t avoid her.”
