I can only imagine the two of them crammed under half a blanket on some old couch. Or maybe Aisling on the floor while her little sister sleeps on the couch. Either way, that is no way to live your day to day.

“I’ll have to leave to get my things when Mrs. Duncan takes her nap,” she says as she pours cream into the teacups. “My uncle usually isn’t up until late in the day. We don’t have much, though, so it shouldn’t take me long.”

The thought of her going alone makes me nauseous.

“I don’t think so,” I shake my head.

She looks up at me, surprised.

I go on, “I’m coming with you to get your things. And then I’m driving you back here. You and Bridget will stay in one of the guest rooms for the time being.”

Aisling stares for a long moment, then says, “I…I can’t do that, Mr. Duncan. I couldn’t impose—”

“It’s not an imposition,” I assure her. “You’re always on about my mother getting her medication at night. Well, this way you can give it to her. You’ll have greater access to her…and you and Bridget will be much more comfortable here than on your friend’s couch. Probably safer as well.”

Aisling peers up at me, worrying her lip and opens her mouth as if to say something. Mybe even decline the offer once more. But then a small, relieved thankful smile stretches her lips, “Thank you, Mr. Duncan. I…I appreciate your help.”

“No thanks needed,” I tell her as I pull out my phone. “I’ll call Martha to watch the house while we’re gone.”

I walk out of the kitchen, texting Aidan.I’ll be a little late today. Do me a favor and hold the line for me until I get there.

It’s been a few days since Aisling and Bridget moved in and things are…well, let’s just say that I might be in a bit of trouble.

When I first suggested that she should move in, I didn’t consider what might come with that. All I was thinking about at the time was getting her away from a dangerous environment. I have no love for men who choose to hit women, and regardless of Aisling’s relationship to me, I’m not about to stand by when I can offer some assistance.

Noble as all that might sound…I had not anticipated what her living under the same roof with me would bring.

The first night was fine. After getting her and Bridget’s meager belongings, we returned to the house, and I set her up in one of the guest rooms near my ma’s room. Once she was all set up, I went to work, leaving her to go about her day as normal. When I returned home that evening, she’d made dinner not only for Ma but for the rest of us as well. That was a nice change of pace for once.

Then, last night, I started to see where this arrangement might be a problem.

I stayed up working on a proposal for our newest client. When I was done, I went up to my room the way I always did. As I walked past Aisling’s room, I happened to notice that her doorwas cracked. I hadn’t meant to look…but I did. She was asleep, lying on her stomach with the covers half on and half off, her nightshirt raised up to her waist. The moment I saw her arse in those little red panties, I froze…and found myself staring as I could feel my cock stiffen.

Her head was turned away from me, so all I could see of her head was her fiery red hair as it blazed across her pillow. Inappropriate thoughts that I should not have for Aisling echoed in my mind and had my dick hard.

I hurried to my room to release this tension.

Seeing her that way is still burned in my mind this morning and as attracted as I am to her, I feel dirty for this level of inappropriate emotions. She’s my employee…not to mention she’s leagues younger than I am. More than ten years my junior and just barely out of university and only a couple years from twenty-one. Everything about what I’m feeling is wrong.

I stayed in my room this morning instead of going down for my morning coffee. I need to make more of a concentrated effort to avoid her if she’s going to stay here. I figure if I get dressed and showered before I go down for my coffee, then I’ll probably miss her altogether.

I do just that, showering quickly and getting dressed for work the way I always have.

I’m putting on my tie when there’s a knock at my door. I open it to find Bridget standing there, smiling from ear to ear. Her reddish blonde hair is up in a single neat ponytail and she’s wearing her school uniform. She’s also holding a cup of coffee.

“Hello, Mr. Duncan,” she chirps.

I kneel down to her. “Hello there, Bridget. Is that coffee for me?”

She nods. “Aisling asked me to bring it up to you, so you won’t be late for work.”

My heart flutters and a warmth fills my chest from this pleasant surprise. I take the cup from her. “Thank you, Bridget. Please tell Aisling thank you as well.”

“Okay.” She starts to run away, then she stops and turns around. “I almost forgot! Thank you for letting us stay here. We really appreciate it.”

As she runs off, I can’t help but smile as well. I sip from the cup.
