“Where’s your car?”

I say nothing and keep going. I could call an Uber instead of taking a bus home. Why didn’t I think of that? I wonder if an Uber ride can come here before the next bus arrives.

“I asked you a question, Chloe.”

His voice sounds so close behind me, and I feel his warm breath blow against my neck. I startle and my heart is racing, but I swing around to face him. Then I glare at him with daggers in my eyes.

Kane stares at me, waiting for an answer. I keep my lips sealed tightly and stare fiercely back at him. When it becomes clear that I’m not going to tell him anything, he breaks eye contact and huffs,

“If you don’t answer, let me drive you home at least.”

And that’s a big fat no.

My reply is to turn around and resume walking. I don’t need his help. I’m still mad at how he treated me when he was wrong about the cause of the app issue.

Once I’m out of the company’s property and on the curb, I whip out my phone and proceed to call an Uber. The car will be here in seven minutes, meaning I can still walk a considerable distance.

As I stroll along on the curb, I feel eyes burning holes in my back, but turning my head around, I realize Kane is no longer following me.

Huh. Weird.

I focus on the road ahead and resume walking.

Let’s Go On A Date

I watch Chloe walk away. Or rather, storm off. She’s putting on leather boots that make dull, plodding sounds on the concrete as she walks. Her laptop bag is slung over her shoulder, and coupled with the sleek brown leather jacket, she gives off the badass employee vibe.

My eyes fall on her hips, swaying seductively to the sides and down to her long legs that seem to stretch forever…

She’s so beautiful and stubborn that it hurts to see her.

My eyes follow her until she disappears around the corner. I rush to my car on impulse and hurry into it, starting up the engine and driving out of the parking lot.

I ease onto the road, and luckily, there is no traffic jam. My intention is to follow Chloe from a safe distance to wherever she’s headed. No, I’m not being creepy. I just want to make sure she stays safe as she walks down the street.

If only she let me give her a lift.

Although, I can’t say I’m surprised by her response. If I had been left hanging when I was about to climax, I’d be furious, too. Chloe has spared no expense in ignoring me, and even though it was quite amusing, I can’t help but wonder if I went too hard on her.

I spot her walking on the curb to my left and apply pressure on the brakes to slow down the car. My eyes leave the road briefly to trace her every step. Her hair bounces as she walks, some of the shorter strands dancing in the late afternoon breeze.

I’ve had enough of the back and forth between us. Something has to be done to amend the dysfunctional relationship between us, and I think I have just the perfect solution.

Spinning on the swivel chair, I wait for the rightful occupant of the office to arrive. Today, I deliberately showed up to work on time so I would be able to catch Chloe’s arrival.

But what if she decides to stay on the software engineering department floor just like she did yesterday?

Well, I could always march down there and demand she comes back to her office. But that wouldn’t do anything to put us in good standing. If anything, it’s going to make things worse.

Luckily, I don’t have to worry too much. Twenty minutes later, the door opens and a smiling Chloe steps into the office. Behind her is Lucy, a genius I’m lucky to have in my company. They’re giggling about something.

Chloe’s eyes land on me, and her smile is immediately wiped off her face. She turns to whisper something to Lucy, and she leaves for her floor soon after. Then Chloe turns her attention back to me, eyes narrowed.

“What are you doing in here?”
