"I'm just saying," Mike adds, "It's about time you get yourself a wife."

"I don't need a wife," I snap. But inside, I remember what happened three nights ago and think, 'What if.'

Chloe was able to finish the first phase of the project that night, and two days later, she was done with the entire software. For a very complex app, she sure did a great job getting it done in such a short time.

She must have been working really hard to complete the project, and that's why I have barely seen her since that night.

Or she could be avoiding me.I force that thought out of my mind.

Today is the app launch day, and the company is in a celebratory mood. I need to stop overthinking because I'm going to see her today.

"Is everything ready?" I ask Mike, and he affirms, "Yep."

Good.

The launch was successful, and our clients were excited about the new software. As the innovator, Chloe came forward to talk about the idea behind the app and all the features the app offers. At least, that's what is expected.

I personally didn't hear a single word of what she said because I was too entranced by her presence alone. In her blue dress that coincidentally matched my tie, she was a sight to behold. My eyes could only fixate on the movement of her lips, her dainty little fingers, and her eyes.

As she spoke, I couldn't help getting flashbacks about when she was wrapped around me, moaning into my hand.

But then I noticed how she deliberately avoided looking at me while she was up on the stage.

The nagging voice in my head, crowing that she's avoiding, can no longer be ignored. I have to talk to her.

The after-party for the event is a formal dinner, and I weave between staff and guests alike, trying to find her. I see a splash of blue up ahead, and I head blindly towards it. It turns out to be Chloe, and she appears to be engaged in a serious conversation with one of my clients.

I encourage interaction between my staff and members of my clientele, but this particular guy is well-known to me. Henry Wilford. He's an online business guru with a taste for beautiful women and is blessed with his looks and wealth to back it up. He almost always gets the women he wants.

My blood boils when I see him angle his body towards Chloe in a possessive manner. Before I realize what I'm doing, I storm over to them and push Chloe behind me, giving the client a fake Cheshire grin.

"Henry," I greet, trying my best to dampen the hard tone of my voice, "I hope you're enjoying the party."

I watch his expression change from seductive to mad to forced politeness, and he answers, "I am. I’m enjoying the conversation with this talented lady."

No fucking way.

Chloe speaks up from behind me, "Yeah. We were in the middle of a conversation."

Without meaning to, I snap, "I could see that."

Her eyes widen, and I curse myself for allowing jealousy to overtake me like that. I grab hold of her arm and turn to Henry, "If you'll excuse me, I want to have a word with my employee."

I don't wait for his answer before strutting off and pulling Chloe along with me. When we're a good distance from everyone, she twists out of my grip and lashes at me,

"What was that about? I was promoting our app, " she gestures to me, "For your company's benefit."

Shaking my head, I tell her, "That's not your job..."

"It's all good when everybody else does it, right?" She cuts in, and her eyes shift to somewhere behind me. Against my will, I follow her gaze to the open floor where the majority of the staff are mingling with the clients.

I turn back to her and take in the sad look on her face. Does she really believe I'm being unfair to her? I just want to talk.

"You know what? You're right," I sigh, "I'm sorry for interrupting the conversation like that. But it looked like he wanted to get you into bed with him."

Her blue eyes widen, looking even brighter by the shade of her dress.

"Seriously?" She exclaims, crossing her arms on her full chest, "That's the first thing that came to your head when you saw me talking with a client?"
