Then she leaves me behind, completely flustered and eager to see her again.

Tonight.

Two A.M.

It's a date.

Chapter nine

Sophia

Ican't seem to get my head on straight, even after I've taken the subway all the way to the White Oak. I straighten up my clothes, start organizing the staff, giving out assignments for the night...and all I'm thinking about is Ryan.

Ryan's lips on mine.

His hands on my lower back, on my ass.

Unbuttoning my shirt, one...agonizing...button at a time.

"You good, Sophia?"

My eyes snap up to find Bryn peering at me at the bar, her eyes narrowed. She knows me well enough to know that something's up—and I'm not sure if I'm ready to tell her what happened.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I say.

Her frown deepens. "Did you know you're a horrible liar?"

"What?" I ask. "I'm serious, I'm fine."

She shakes her head. "No...something happened."

I take a deep breath, knowing there's no point hiding it from her. "Ryan kissed me," I admit, my cheeks flushing at the memory.

Bryn's eyes widen in surprise. "What? When?"

"Right before work," I say, feeling a rush of heat through my body at the thought of it. "When he got back from his trip...he told me he wants me. And he kissed me."

"Damn, Sophia," she mutters. "I knew you had a thing for him, but this happened fast."

"You're judging me, which is why I didn't want to tell you."

"I'm not judging you," she says. "I just...you're the one who said we shouldn't hook up with the members."

"I know that…"

"…and now it's happened twice," she goes on. "First Kylie, then you. I don't want these guys to start thinking there's an expectation."

I raise my eyebrows. "You can't think that, Bryn."

"But the temptation's there."

Maybe I'm imagining the hint, but I almost think her eyes dart over my shoulder toward one of the booths...and when I follow her gaze, I see Diego Ramos talking to a waitress. He's always been respectful, has never said a damn thing to the staff.

"Is the temptation there for them or you?"

Bryn scowls. "I'm not a gold digger."

"Neither am I."
