I really hope she’s okay.

After she’s fallen deeply asleep, we leave her room and shut the door.

“The police have granted me temporary custody of Daisy until all the issues with Quinn are resolved,” Spencer whispers to me.

“That’s good,” I remark. “At least you can take care of her. Is she going to be alright?”

“I hope so,” Spencer says.

“No child should have to see all that.”

“No, they really shouldn’t.”

“I’m just glad you were there to try to calm everything down,” I say.

Spencer nods at my bruised cheek. “Well, I couldn’t calmeverythingdown.”

I smile. “Nope. That was pretty crazy. I think I’m still in shock.”

“Are you too much in shock to sit down and have that proper talk?” Spencer asks me, obviously concerned.

I nod. “I’ll like that.”

We go to his living room and share a bottle of wine.

“How is your cheek?” he asks me.

I smile. “It’s not stinging anymore. How does it look?”

“You always look beautiful,” Spencer replies. “Swelling or no swelling.”

I blush. I told myself I would be angry with this man, but when he says words like that, how can I be?

“I apologize for ambushing you in the park,” I say. “I’ve never really been one for the dramatic. I think I went a little overboard back there.”

“That wasverydramatic, Olivia.”

“Yeah. It kinda went out of hand from what I envisaged. It was my first time doing something like that.”

Spencer smiles weakly. “I probably would’ve done the same kind of thing if I were in your position.”

“Tell me about Quinn,” I say. “I think I’m owed an explanation after that slap.”

Spencer takes in a deep unsure breath. “Sure.”

“Is it okay that you tell me about you and her?” I ask. “I’m not overstepping anything, am I?”

“You do deserve an explanation,” he replies seriously.

“Yeah.”

“You can ask me anything and I’ll answer to the best of my abilities,” he says softly.

I think about it for a moment. “Did you ever like her? Quinn?”

Spencer’s eyes drop. “I thought I liked her, but now, looking back, I didn’t really. It was a folly of youth. I was caught up in something that flew far beyond my control.”

“Some big words there.”
