Page 34 of Kiss To Tempt

For a moment, I forgot that we were still at the community center, surrounded by kids, and his friend, who’s giving us a knowing look from the other side of the court.

Shaking my head, I take a step back. “You should get back to your game.”

Quinn grabs my hand, stopping me from leaving. Tingles spread from that point of contact all the way up my arm, making me shiver. Quinn notices it too, but he doesn’t comment. “How about I take you out for ice cream after your shift is done and tell you instead?”

“Quinn…”

The sex is a lot as it is, but going out together, even if just for ice cream, sounded too much like a date.

He lifts his arms in the air. “It’s just ice cream, Ness. No need to get your panties in a twist.”

His voice dropped an octave lower, making my thighs clench together. He wiggles his brows. “Whatcha say, Ness?”

Damn this man.

I give him a little shove. “Fine. I’m done at seven.”

Quinn grins. “Seven it is.”

CHAPTEREIGHT

QUINN

I’m leaning against my car as Vanessa pulls into the parking lot a few minutes after seven. She must see me standing there since she drives her truck into the open spot next to my car.

Before leaving the community center, I suggested picking her up, but she was determined to drive here instead. I guess it had something to do with her insisting this wasn’t a date, but whatever. I’ll take what I can get.

Like the fact that she didn’t like that I just left her bed.

If I remember correctly, you’re the one who left the other day.

Admitting it or not, she cared. I could see it on her face and hear it in the tone of her voice. She cared. She wasn’t too happy about it, but I couldn’t stop grinning all day.

As soon as she turns off the engine, I push off my car and pull open the door for her.

“Thanks.” Unbuckling her seatbelt, she turns to the side, and those damn legs appear in front of my eyes.

It took everything in me not to ogle them when she came out on the court earlier today. Her dress just skimmed her knees, leaving all that toned, golden skin exposed. She matched the dress with some kind of high heels that have the tiniest straps I’ve ever seen wrapping around her toes and ankle. I never thought much about women’s feet, but damn, between those heels and the ruby red nail polish glimmering on her toes, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She was sexy as hell, and the best part is, she didn’t even realize it. I swear it took me a good ten minutes in the locker room to calm the fuck down, so I didn’t scare the kids with my hard-on.

Vanessa slides out of her car, her body brushing against mine. Could I have moved? Yes, but I didn’t want to. My muscles tighten at the connection. My whole body vibrated with the need to touch her.

Vanessa tilts her head back, her sleek ponytail swaying with the motion, as she looks up at me. “Sorry to keep you waiting. I got a phone call just before I closed, so it took longer than anticipated to wrap up.”

“No worries, I don’t mind the wait.” I take in her face. “You look beautiful.”

Vanessa’s gaze drops. She tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear. “I’m wearing the exact same thing I did earlier today.”

“Well, I didn’t get a chance to say it earlier. I got distracted by the ball attack.”

Vanessa narrows her eyes at me. “Don’t remind me of that.”

“Why not? It was actually pretty funny.”

“Maybe for you.” She rolls her eyes and slips around me. Sighing, I close the door, and the lights blink as she locks the car. “It wasn’t funny at all from where I was standing. I swear I’ll never again go out on the court when somebody is playing a sport.”

I fall in line with her, trying to keep my steps short so she doesn’t have to run to keep up with me. “Not a sports fan?”

“I don’t mind watching it,” she shrugs. “But don’t ask me to play. I don’t think I’ve touched a ball since high school or something. Which was a long time ago.”
