“No, I’m not gonna let you get yourself killed just to see a pair of tits!”
“He’ll never even know!”
“Alpha knowseverything.”
I focus what little energy I have on that little sliver of light again, sensing it growing brighter as I start to come back into myself. I wiggle the tips of my fingers as feeling starts to return to them. I do the same with my toes. Then I squint my eyes open, my head pounding as they struggle to adjust to the light.
I’m in a motel room.Javi’s room. He’s not here with me anymore, though. Instead, I see the two burly guys that came in with Delilah earlier grappling on the floor beside the bed as I lay upon it, my body still heavy and limp.
The men break apart and I press my eyes shut again, pretending that I’m still incapacitated.
I need a minute to figure out what the hell is happening right now.
My mind still feels a little sluggish, but slowly, and with the help of these two idiots’ jabbering, I start to piece together everything that has brought me to this point.
“How long is she supposed to be out?” the creep who tried to get a peek at my boobs asks.
“Don’t know. Not sure how the wolfsbane affects the sedative,” the other one answers.
“Where’d D even get a dart gun anyways?”
“The hunters left it behind once. She’s held onto it for years.”
Wolfsbane. That explains why I can’t feel my wolf right now and why my body has been so slow to fight off the drug. My shifter abilities are obstructed, including rapid healing.
My skin suddenly prickles with the awareness that I’m being watched, and I do my best to keep my expression relaxed, simulating a peaceful slumber.
“What’s he gonna do with her?”
My heart pounds faster.
“What’s with all the questions?” the creep’s buddy groans. “Alpha and D have this all worked out, we just follow orders.”
A sudden, sharp knock at the door causes me to flinch, but the goons in here with me must not notice. I listen as heavy footsteps tread against the floor to cross the room, my mind racing as the effects of the sedative wear off some more and I start to become more cognizant.
What exactly happened?
The kiss. The dart. The revelation that Javi is Alpha Xavier’sson.
Was this his plan for me all along?
“Nobody’s supposed to come in here,” the creepy guy bites out, and I flinch again in response to a loud banging sound as someone pushes their way inside.
“Get out of my way, Seth! I’m just here to check on her.”
The unfamiliar female voice catches me off guard, and I crack my eyes open for the briefest moment to see who’s entered the room.
The blonde girl from the photos with Javi.
He said she was his best friend, but now… I’m honestly not surewhatto believe anymore.
She shoves her way past the guy blocking the door and I quickly close my eyes again, faking sleep.
“She’s still out?” the girl asks, sounding surprised.
“Hasn’t made a peep,” one of the men answer.
She heaves a sigh, stepping closer. I hear the crinkle of a wrapper and what sounds like something being set down on the table beside the bed. “Make sure she eats this when she wakes up.”
