One of Gavin’s men spins around and runs, the pounding of his feet against the pavement echoing in the quiet of the alley.
The other guy and Gavin himself are still frozen in a state of suspended shock.
Juliet cranes her neck to look back at me as I calmly bring my hands to the hem of my shirt, peeling it off overhead in one fluid motion. My eyes connect with her silver ones as I drop it to the ground and speak in a low, even voice.
“Get him.”
Time shifts from a crawl to a sprint as all hell breaks loose.
Juliet’s white wolf launches forward, catching up to the runner in the blink of an eye and taking him down. Meanwhile, I call my own wolf forward, my skin tingling with my shift.
Gavin’s other guy tries to run, but he barely makes it two steps before I’m pouncing on him from behind in my wolf form, tackling him to the ground. His teeth clack together loudly as he hits the pavement, limbs flailing in a desperate bid to free himself. I clamp my jaws down around the back of his neck and yank sharply to snap it, the sickening crack reverberating in my ears.
The moment he goes still beneath me, I whip around toward Gavin, painfully aware of another sound registering.
The click of a gun’s hammer.
Gavin’s knuckles are white around the grip of the handgun as he points the barrel toward the white wolf a few yards away, and I don’t blink, don’t hesitate. A murderous growl tears from me as I hurl myself forward, knocking Gavin off his feet before he can pull the trigger.
He goes down like a sack of potatoes, the air leaving his lungs on a whoosh as the gun slips free from his hand and goes sliding across the asphalt. His terrified eyes meet mine the moment before I bury my fangs in his throat, the metallic tang of blood coating my tongue as I yank back sharply, ripping through flesh and tendons. His body convulses, a horrible gurgling sound leaving him as blood spurts from his neck, pooling around him on the pavement.
Then it’s all over.
I’m panting hard as time slows once more, and I lift my head to see Juliet rising from a crouch, naked in her human form. My wolf pulls back as if on instinct, yielding to my human side as the air around me shimmers with my shift.
We start toward one another, the taut tether of the bond between us slackening with each step that closes the distance. The second she’s within reach, I grab her face in both hands, staring down into her bright blue eyes and searching them for any sign of pain or discomfort.
“Are you hurt?”
She pushes up on her toes and slams her mouth against mine in answer, kissing me hungrily, passionately, smearing the blood of our victims between our lips. I bury my hands in her hair at the base of her skull and pull her in closer, angling my head to deepen it. Our tongues clash in a frenzy, Juliet’s hands stroking down the contours of my abs until one is wrapping around my dick, pumping it as it swells against her palm.
If I was in my right mind, I’d consider the fact that we’re in an alley downtown, completely naked with blood staining our skin and three dead bodies lying around us.
I’m not, though.
The thought doesn’t even cross it as I lift Juliet by the backs of her thighs, wrapping her legs around me and carrying her a few steps until her back meets the side of the redbrick building. In the next breath, I’m thrusting inside her, burying every inch in her tight, wet heat, groaning against her lips in pleasure.
Juliet bucks against me, her fingernails scoring the skin of my shoulders as I start hammering in and out, so lost to the primal urge to claim her that the world around us fades away until it’s just the two of us, our bodies joined, ragged breaths mingling.
Her thighs tremble against my hips, my pelvis grinding against her clit with every snap of them until she’s coming undone. The moment her inner walls spasm around my cock, I follow her over the edge of oblivion, darkness feathering the edges of my vision as I come so hard that my knees nearly buckle beneath our combined weight.
It isn’t until we both come down that my senses return, catapulting me into reality.
We’re downtown.
In an alley.
Naked.
With three dead bodies nearby.
Fuck.
I ease out of Juliet, gently lowering her to her feet while still supporting her with an arm slung around her waist.
“We need to clean this up and get out of here,” I murmur, her eyes lifting over my shoulder to take in the carnage on the pavement behind us.
Her gaze returns to mine and she sinks her teeth into her lower lip with a nod.
