Yes, of course, I love you.
Then kiss him for me. It’ll be all right.
I pulled my face back from Madok, looking at him with bewilderment, and I started to shake my head back and forth. Tears overwhelmed me. I didn’t know why Evander pushed me to kiss Madok, but I knew it must be for a reason.
Madok took another step towards me, grabbing my face again. His golden eyes looked like flames up close and I could feel his breath on my lips.
“I remember the time you had a panic attack before your fifteenth birthday, and I kissed you. You calmed down. Just let me kiss you once. Please, Clara.”
He leaned his forehead on mine, and I nodded.
I took a deep breath as he leaned in slowly, tilting my head into him, pressing our lips against each other. When he did, I felt warmth spread and light emitted around us. It was my light.
My power.
My essence was pulsing out of me.
His kiss deepened, and my grip on my face eased as he moved his hands to mine. Intertwining our fingers. He pulled back from my kiss just quick enough to whisper.
“You still trust me?”
Then his lips were back onto mine. I felt the surge of anger coming from Madok. Not anger towards me but Theo. All the powers aligned within me, and I could feel the golden swells in my arms igniting.
Madok took my hands and pulled them to face Theo, and he kissed me one final time before he said, “Let it all go, Clara. Let it all go.”
So, I did. I let it all go. I unleashed it all.
Theo’s eyes registered what I was doing about half a second too late. Madok stepped to the side as I continued walking towards Theo with all my energy pulsating into one. Golden streaks of light pierced him, and his eyes turned black. His voice deepened.
“You are a pawn, Clara. You are only eliminating me from stepping into another realm of evil that you have no idea how to control. You just signed the death certificate to the two men you love.”
I turned my eyes towards Madok, and I could see the golden light beaming from him as he smiled at me. I became frantic, but the hold on my power was too strong and too late.
I would kill Theo and, along with him, Madok and Evander.
I love you.
Tears were streaming down my face. I knew it was over. I was killing all three of them. I was so angry I screamed. Anguished. My screams radiated off the stone walls, and the castle crumbled around us. The ground shook violently as I watched Theo’s life dissipate under my power. Flashes of images of Evander and I went through my head.
I saw his smile and flashes of images of our time together and the time that was supposed to come. I loved him so much it hurt. He was my mate. My future. But I was killing him.
With one final burst of energy, the castle was leveled with me standing in the center of the rubble.
Theo’s body was destroyed into ash, but I saw Madok lying there as I turned around. I immediately ran to him and placed my hands behind his head. His eyes were still golden, but he wasn’t there. He was gone.
I frantically started to call out to Evander. Hoping he would respond.
Evander. Evander. Please be alive. I love you.
As the words escaped me, I noticed the marriage bond on my hand starting to disappear along with my power marking.
He was gone.
I fell to the ground and started to cry. The sky started to darken, and thunder rumbled in the distance. I had done it. I had broken the curse, I felt it in my bones thatit was done, but I had also broken myself in the process, and I don’t think I will ever recover.
When I fell to the ground, I noticed a piece of paper that fell out of my pants pocket. I had forgotten the letter that my father had given me. I opened it and read what it entailed.
Find Colette.
