“Julius!” Kate shrieks. “Stop it!”

“What?” He faints an innocent face just like the one I did a second ago. “Princess, you are not expecting me to blindly trust this caveman with my Lexi?”

“YourLexi?” Landon asks with a note of a possessive growl in his tone.

“People, please, can we just eat?” I try to switch the subject.

“Hold on, Kitten. No one is allowed to claim you as theirs with me around.”

That apparently appeases Julius because he smiles. “Okay, you passed.”

“Passed?”

“Aha, you can keep seeing my Lexi.”

“The nerve you have, boy!” Landon is about to jump out of his seat, and I lay a hand over his shoulder, which he kisses, and then goes back to shooting daggers at Julius.

“Easy, caveman. Lexi is like a sister to me; I would never give up my little ballerina for anyone. No offense, Lex.”

“None taken, and you,” I point to Landon. “Relax.”

“Fine,” he grids out, but you can feel the change in the air. These two demons might get along after all, and Kate and I breath out a breath we didn’t know we were both holding.

“To answer your question, I like Lexi very much. I have no intentions to hurt her,” Landon says in his business voice.

“Good, then I don’t have to tell you what will happen if you do, right?”

“Lexi, how did you end up living with such an insufferable biker?” Lan asks, and Kate bursts out laughing.

“Oh, that’s good,” Kate says in the middle of her laugh attack.

“I didn’t. Apparently, he comes as a package deal with my best friend.”

“Har, har, you love me, Lexi,” Jules says with a wink, and I swear Landon is about to kill him.

“I do, but tone it down and let’s eat finally. Please.”

Somehow, we managed to get through the rest of the dinner without any bloodshed, and Julius and Landon even exchanged a few non-threatening conversations.

Shocker, I know.

“Why don’t we go out tomorrow night? My treat?” Landon asks the whole table.

“Is that an invitation, caveman?” Jules asks.

“It sure is, biker.”

“Okay then.”

“Wow,” Kate whispers. “That was life-changing.” And we all burst out laughing, but she is right. Landon is getting along with the most important people in my life, and my heart cracks a bit more.

“Let’s do this again but with Ian and Sara with us as well next time,” I say.

“Yesss,” Kate chirps.

“Ian and Sara?”

“Those are our other friends,” I tell Lan, and then just to mess with Julius, I add, “He was Kate’s ex, you know, before or wait, was it during their relationship with Jules.”
