“You really want to do this?”
“Yes. I really want to do this. I need to know that no matter what happens someone is always going to be there for you.” He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. “But if you don’t want this to be a three-way relationship, I’m still going to ask him to be my backup.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. I’ve never been so sure in my life. Plus, knowing that he’s in love with you, do you think it’s fair to leave him out there in the cold? And before you answer, I know you love him, too, and I’m okay with that. If you weren’t I wouldn’t even bring this up. But I honestly think the three of us together could have a really great life.”
She bit into her bottom lip, appearing to mull it over. “Are you really sure about this? This is what you want? Because if we start this and somewhere down the line you change your mind, kids will be involved. I won’t allow my kids to be hurt by decisions we make now.”
“Yes. I’m sure, but only if it’s what you want, too. And I would never do anything to hurt our kids.” He rubbed his thumb lightly over her bottom lip. “What do you say? Think you can handle living with two men for the rest of your life?”
A slow smile spread across her face. “Okay. Let’s give it a try.”
He leaned down and touched his lips to hers. “Now that you’re on board, you’re going to have to help me convince Darren.”
“What? I thought you said he would be okay with this.”
“No. I never actually said he was okay with this. Yet. I haven’t actually talked to him yet. I needed you to be on board to help me convince him that this is the life we all need. And Darren being the man he is would initially think we’re insane for propositioning this. He’s going to be afraid that adding him to the mix will wreck the relationship you and I have. Once we convince him that adding him into the mix can only make things better, he’ll be all in and he’ll never be able to picture his life any other way.”
He could see she still had some lingering doubts and he was pretty sure how to clear them up for her. He kissed her long and deep, pouring his whole heart into it, giving her no doubts as to how much he loved her. “Something else you need to consider before you make your final decision—I want you to think about how you felt when Darren got shot and stabbed and you saw all that blood around him. What did you feel in that moment? What did your heart tell you?”
“My heart stopped when I saw him get shot. Then when he provoked Chet into a fight and got stabbed, the thought of never seeing him or hearing his voice again tore something inside me.” She turned her tear-filled eyes toward him. “Is there something wrong with me that I’m in love with you and Darren? I always imagined what life would be like if you and I ever got together and it was amazing. Then Darren came along and I don’t know how it happened, but I fell in love with him, too. It’s not the same way I love you, but…” she trailed off, unable to come up with the rest of the words.
“No, baby. There’s nothing wrong with you.” Never in his life did he think he would be working so hard to find a way to share his wife with another man. Maybe there was something wrong with him? “I feel the same way. Life with you is more than enough for me, but adding Darren to our life will only make it that much more amazing.”
Kylie looked deep into his eyes, weighing the pros and cons of what he was asking of her. He could practically hear the wheels in her head spinning. Apparently coming to a decision, she took a deep breath and said, “If you’re sure this is what you want, I’ll help you convince Darren that this is what he wants, too.”
“Perfect. Now, get up and get dressed. I’ll tell you how we’re going to do that on the way to visit the big bastard.”
Darren had spent four days in the hospital before he was finally sent home. On the first day he’d been home Kylie hadn’t stopped fussing over him once. She made sure he took his medicine on time with plenty to eat and drink. She made sure he had the T.V. remote within reach. She was doing so much for him, he was afraid she was going to make herself sick by doing too much.
When he mentioned to Tuck that he was worried Kylie was doing too much, his friend smiled and told him to go with it. “She needs this. After everything you’ve done for her, she wants to take care of you now.”
Darren understood this logically, but it was harder than he thought to have someone take care of him. He was used to fending for himself. And what really surprised him was Tuck not appearing to have a single concern that his woman was spending so much of her time taking care of him.
By the second day, he couldn’t stand it anymore. She needed to take a break. “Kylie. Babe. Stop. Come have a seat on the couch and watch some T.V. with me and Tuck.”
“I will in a minute. I just want to throw the clothes in the dryer first.” She pranced out of the room wearing a pair of short sleep shorts and a thin-strapped tank top. She wasn’t wearing a bra and he could see her nipples poking at the material. He clenched his teeth together and fought to contain a groan. He had to put a throw pillow over her lap to keep Tuck from seeing him pop an erection.
All he could think was she was purposely trying to kill him. She had to be. Why else would she torture him like this? The thoughts he was having as he stared at his woman’s unbound tits were wrong on so many levels that Tuck would kick his ass if he were privy to them.
Hell, just this morning, he’d come into the kitchen and found her bending over looking for something in one of the bottom cabinets. He’d slowly backed out of the room, trying his best not to make a sound, before he forgot himself and did something so monumentally stupid and irrevocably damning, like bending her over the kitchen table and fucking her legs off.
He was blaming all the unwanted images and fantasies on his pain meds and lack of sex. He hadn’t had much time for sex since Kylie moved in and he was afraid his dick was letting him know about it now. Traitorous bastard was constantly getting hard and he was running out of ways to hide his erection.
Tuck sat at the opposite end of the couch from him, a shit-eating grin on his face. What the fuck was up with that? Before he could ask him about it, Kylie was back and taking a seat between the two of them. She started off leaning against Tuck’s shoulder while they watched Game of Thrones season two where they’d left off, then she lay down so that her head was in Tuck’s lap and her feet ended up in his lap.
With this new position, he couldn’t help but see her ass cheeks hanging out of her shorts. Fuck me. He ran a hand over his face and prayed for strength. Was it hot in here or was it just him? He was sure he was sweating.
For some reason, Kylie had developed restless leg syndrome and her feet wouldn’t stay still in his lap. In order to protect his dick, he’d had to latch onto her lower legs to pin them in place. They were so silky smooth it was almost mesmerizing. At one point he caught himself running his hand up and down her calf almost absently. He’d immediately stopped and pulled his hands away, then slowly but surely, her feet would get to moving and he’d have to grab a hold of them again. He took a quick look to see how Tuck felt about him running his hands along his woman’s legs only to find him focused on the television, absently running his fingers through her hair.
Which brought them to tonight after dinner. He was sitting on the couch flipping through the channels while Tuck and Kylie had disappeared into what he was now referring to as “their” room. He wasn’t sure what they were doing and he desperately didn’t want his mind to go there. After being woken up from a deep sleep two nights in a row to the sound of their headboard banging the wall, he was quickly developing a case of blue balls. If he didn’t get some relief soon, he worried for his sanity.
“What did you find to watch? Please tell me it’s not more Game of Thrones.” Tuck sauntered into the living room having changed into gym shorts and a tee.
“You want some popcorn?” Tuck asked on his way through to the kitchen.
“Sure. But I want my own bowl. You hog it too much.” He shook his head listening to Tuck’s laugher.
