“It does.” He stared at her, feeling the connection as truemates even though they weren’t fully mated. “Ashley, I’m crazy about you.”

“I’m crazy about you too.”

He kissed her once more, then snuggled her close. She fell asleep quickly, her breath evening out swiftly and her body relaxing in his arms.

He wasn’t sure he’d ever get tired of how it felt to have her with him. What a difficult fucking road to get to this place, but they had each other now, and he was certain that no matter what came their way, they’d get through it.

They were mates, after all.

ChapterTwenty-Five

Ashley pulled her coat out of the closet, but before she could pull it on, Romeo took it from her and held it open.

“You’re so cute,” she said. “Thank you.”

He chuckled. “Just for you.” She turned to face him and he kissed her. “Ready?”

It was their third date. The first had been dinner out, the second a winery tour which she’d adored. “What’s the plan for tonight? It’s pretty early for dinner.”

It was nearly three in the afternoon. She'd been intrigued when he’d shown up an hour earlier and said he’d taken the afternoon off work so they could go out. And really happy too. She didn’t have anything to do while he was at work since she didn’t have a job right now. He’d gone back to work on Thursday, and that night, they’d gone shopping so she could start to work on her wardrobe. She wasn’t sure when they’d get to LA to pack up her house, but she wasn’t really sure she wanted anything from that part of her life anyway.

“Well, we’re going to an early meal because I got tickets for the movie you wanted to see, and I want to eat first.”

“You got tickets forSpace Army? I thought you hated sci-fi?” It was a full-length movie based on her favorite streaming sci-fi show about a military base on the moon with soldiers who fought monsters.

“For you, I absolutely will sit through a sci-fi movie. Because I know what’s going to be waiting for me when we get home.” He wiggled his brows.

“Me, naked?”

“Yep.”

She laughed. “Well, that’s definitely accurate. I’m so excited, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, sweetheart. We’re going to eat at a bistro near the theater, then you can eat your weight in popcorn like you said you love to.”

She did a little dance.

They hurried out to the truck and he shut her in, then got behind the wheel. The sun was shining, but it was still cold, so she spun the dial to turn up the heat as he backed out of the drive.

“I had a thought for the weekend,” he said.

“It’s Monday and you’re already thinking about the weekend?” she asked.

“One hundred percent. I’d like to take you dancing. We could go to Lykos.”

“The shifter bar?”

He’d told her about it, but they hadn’t been yet. “Yep. Have you ever met a fallen angel?”

“No. Is there one there?”

“Yeah, Paris. He’s the manager. There are a couple others in the area too. Cleveland is full of supernatural surprises.”

“I’d say.”

She opened her mouth to ask him what the bar was like when she saw a couple of kids a few blocks up getting off a school bus. There were no other vehicles on the road ahead of them save for the bus and a mint green sedan with a rusty bumper.

“That looks…,” she said, wondering why the sedan looked so familiar.
