He lunged, grabbing her and spinning her around.
She fought him, hitting and kicking, struggling with everything she had, but he was too big. With one hand, he grabbed her wrists as his mouth went to her ear. “Stop or I kill her.”
Her gaze fell on Brigid… God, she was so still.
Rage raced through her blood as James pulled tape across her lips. As he bound her wrists, she fisted her hands, making her wrists as thick as possible, hoping it would help her get out later.
When he shoved her to the couch and got to work on her ankles, something stabbed the back of her thigh. She eased her hand under her…it felt like one of Brigid’s bobby pins. Quickly, she snatched it into her palm just before James yanked her up.
“Let’s go.”
CHAPTER 34
“This doesn’t feel right,” Erik said quietly from behind the wheel.
They were almost back in Redwood, but no part of him had wanted to leave Seattle. Chandler had organized for the women to go into protective custody, but that wasn’t enough. They weren’t safe until these assholes were gone.
“I feel it too, my friend,” Rachel said quietly from the passenger seat. She’d been silent on this drive, which was nothing like her.
They were leaving their job unfinished. It felt wrong.
“You know what this means though, right?” Rachel’s lips twitched. “That you won’t be rid of me just yet.”
“So you’re staying?”
“Hell yes, I’m staying. These assholes deserve a special place in hell, andIintend to make sure they get there. Especially this asshole Moreno.”
There was that don’t-mess-with-me best friend of his. “Chandler will find them. He’s never let me down before.”
“Even if it takes him a while…I don’t mind. I’ve been getting a bit bored of Arkansas.”
He chuckled. “No one gets bored of Arkansas.”
She lifted a shoulder. “You know me. Not much can keep me occupied for long.”
Yeah, he knew that.
“I came here foryou,” she continued quietly. “To make sure you were okay after your dad’s fall. When you told me what happened, I was worried. But what I found was even more shocking.”
He scowled. “What?”
“You’re not okay, Erik. You’re so much fuckingbetterthan that. I’m happy that you’ve found Hannah.”
“She’s my world, Rach. Before her, I was barely surviving. Trying to live within the fucking prison that I called my life. But she’s made me want more. She’s made me believe Ideservemore.”
Rachel gripped his arm. “Erik…that’s beautiful. Tell her every day how important she is. Don’t let her slip away.”
“Every damn day.”
He’d just crossed over the border into Redwood when his phone rang. He used the car Bluetooth to answer. “Chandler, you find anything?”
“The agent just reported to his supervisor that they’re making a last-minute pickup tonight. That’s why they weren’t at the club. They just reached the location.”
Erik’s knuckles whitened on the wheel. Pickup meaning they were grabbing a damn woman. “We’re back in Redwood. Even if we drove to the location now, we wouldn’t—”
“They’reinRedwood.”
Rachel was already reaching into her bag for weapons.
