She moaned, the sounds being torn from her throat rivaling the slaps of his body thrusting against her.

“Fuck, you destroy me,” Erik whispered. He lifted her leg higher and thrust at a new angle, hitting a different point inside her.

“Erik…” She wasn’t sure if she was asking for something or just desperate for more of him. Nothing made sense in this moment but him and what he made her feel.

His mouth moved back to her ear, nipping the lobe before whispering, “Come for me, Angel.”

He reached down and stroked her clit, and that was all it took to lose control. For her body to break into a million pieces, trusting Erik to put her back together.

Erik kept thrusting, his thumb continuing to roll her clit until his own body tensed and shuddered, and he broke with her. And God, it was everything seeing such a powerful man being brought to his knees, seeing and feeling him give her all he had.

She held him as they both descended into stillness, as the whispers of the night became the only sounds in the room.

When he finally lifted his head and looked at her, she saw it all. Every pain. Every fracture. Every emotion, good and bad, that had touched him in the last couple of months.

He didn’t shield her from anything.

“Thank you,” he whispered.

“For what?”

“Returning to me.”

Her heart skipped a beat. “I’ll always return to you, Erik. It doesn’t feel like a choice anymore.”

He lowered his face to her neck. She cupped his head with her hands and held him, memorizing this new version of them.

CHAPTER 21

Hannah’s back rose and fell slowly beneath his hand, her cheek pressed to his chest. It was long past the time he would usually get up, but he couldn’t move. Lying here, holding her…it was peace.

Yesterday had been a day to remember for all the wrong reasons…until last night. Until her touch. Her words. Her promise of forever.

A soft moan slipped from her lips, and a second later, her head turned, a lock of hair falling over her cheek. Gently, he reached down and slipped it back behind her ear.

Slowly, her beautiful blue eyes opened, and she looked up at him.

Every time her eyes locked with his, it felt like a sucker punch to the gut. She stole every scrap of air from his lungs.

“Hey.” Her voice was soft, her breath brushing over his skin.

“Good morning, Angel.” He cupped her cheek. “You sleep okay?”

The corners of her mouth lifted. “Better than I have in a long time.”

Him too. “Good.” His thumb grazed her cheek. “I’d ask how your blood sugars are, but I didn’t see a monitor on you last night.”

She cringed. “My old monitor ran out yesterday, and the new ones haven’t arrived yet.”

A soft growl slipped from his chest. “Why didn’t you tell me? I would have ordered you more.”

“You know why.” She drew a circle on his chest. “But even if we were in a good place, that’s not your responsibility.”

He could have laughed at the absurdity in that statement. “You arealwaysmy responsibility, good place or not.”

The look she gave him said she didn’t agree.

He turned them over, caging her to the bed. “Do you still mean everything you said last night?”
