His name whispered from her lips, slipping into his heart.

This. This is what got him through his darkest days. The feel of her in his arms. The knowledge that she was still his. That she loved him.

In one swift move, he tugged her shirt over her head and dropped it to the floor before taking one pebbled nipple between his lips.

Hannah whimpered, her back arching, pushing her farther into his mouth. He flicked her bud back and forth, then sucked.

“Erik…now. I can’t wait!”

He slipped a hand into her panties, grazing over her clit, loving the little jolt from her. So damn responsive. His thumb moved over her as he touched a finger to her entrance and pushed inside.

Fucking soaked.

“Erik, please!”

He growled, tearing her panties from her body before pulling out his cock and positioning it at her entrance. He intended to go slow. To stretch her walls carefully. But Hannah tightened her legs, yanking him closer, and he thrust inside her.

The ripple in his chest was something between heaven and agony. “Hannah…you kill me.”

It was like they were made to fit so perfectly, nothing and no one else could ever compare.

Her gaze bored into his. “Remember, you and me. In every version…every story.”

In this moment, she made him believe her. Believe that nothing and no one could tear them apart.

His mouth crashed to hers, and he kissed her deeply. His hips began to move, thrusting in and out. Every time he returned to her, it was like coming home. Returning to his heart.

He tangled his tongue with hers, slid his hand up her side to cup her breast. Her fingers dug into his shoulders, soft moans slipping from her throat as he swiped her nipple back and forth.

“You’re so fucking perfect, Angel.”

“For you,” she whispered, her breath brushing over his lips. “Only for you.”

His thrusts became harder. Faster. The sounds rippling from her throat louder. It was only when he reached down and circled her clit that her body tensed and broke, her walls clenching around him.

He continued to thrust. To taste her. Touch her. But too soon, his own body tightened, and he shattered, breaking into so many pieces his knees almost buckled.

He forced himself to remain upright. To keep her in his arms. When he finally stilled, it was only their chests that moved.

She kissed his lips again, but this kiss was different. It was soft. Almost a graze. Then she whispered, “Us. It’s always us.”

CHAPTER 10

Hannah climbed out of the car and walked toward Reuben’s Real Estate. She wanted to be happy. Last night had been everything. The way Erik had touched her. Needed her. But this morning when she woke, he’d been gone again. No note. No text.

Every time they took a step forward, it felt like they then took two steps back. Or at least,Eriktook steps back.

She’d just touched the office door when her phone beeped with a text. Her heart thumped like it always did at the possibility she’d see Erik’s name on the screen. That he’d write sweet words. Maybe ask her to spend the evening with him.

Hope sucked. It made her wish for things that often didn’t eventuate.

She pulled out her phone and frowned when she saw an unknown number. She clicked into the text…and all the blood rushed from her head.

Unknown Number: You think I’m playing? I’m not. You’re a murderer. And I’m gonna make sure you pay for the crime you tried to hide all those years ago.

The nausea came so hard and fast, she almost threw up then and there. She barely forced the bile down her throat as she spunto look up and down the street. Whowasthis person? Were they watching her?

She read the text again, needing the words to rearrange into something different. Because this wasn’t possible. No oneknew what had happened all those years ago. No one but Nico, and he was gone. She hadn’t even told Erik yet. She’d meant to, then he’d gotten distant and she just…hadn’t.
