Erik frowned when she stopped. “You think what, Angel?”
“I think someone pushed me.”
CHAPTER 8
“Iwant a list of every guest who attended the party.”
There was a beat of silence over the phone, and he could almost hear his sister thinking. It was early, and the morning sun reflected off his laptop screen in his office. Hannah was still asleep, but luckily, Andi was an early riser, party the night before or no party.
“Erik, I can give it to you, but I just can’t imagine anyone I invited pushing her in.”
“You think she’s lying?”
“No.” The answer came so quickly, he knew it was true. “I don’t knowwhatto think. Maybe someone came who wasn’t invited? There were a lot of people, so there’s every chance someone could have snuck in without me noticing. And it’s not like I had security.”
He growled. “Next time, I’m ordering security. We’re also putting up cameras at your place.”
A choked noise sounded over the phone. “Uh…no.”
“Yes.”
“Erik, I know this has shaken you and that you’re angry.”
Fuck yes, he was angry. Someone hadpushedHannah into the pool. Had they done it because they knew she couldn’t swim?
He’d wanted to go back outside and question every goddamn guest there last night. Hell, he would have if Nate hadn’t grabbed him before he could make a scene.
“But…” Andi continued, “I don’t think this had anything to do with me. I’m okay. My home is okay. Nothing’s missing. And I won’t be having another party like that for a while, anyway. Probably another ten years.”
Erik ran frustrated fingers through his hair. A part of him wanted everyone he loved to have as much security as possible. But Andi was right. The danger hadn’t been directed at her. If she didn’t want cameras at her home, that was her choice.
She sighed. “I don’t have a full list because some people invited partners, and I invited a few different people here and there. As far as I know, there was really only one person in attendance who wasn’t already closely connected to anyone…”
One name immediately came to mind. “Leo.”
“Yeah. I invited him because I met him at the café that day, and he mentioned he didn’t know anyone in town.”
“I’ll look into him. Can you just send me who else you remember?”
Andi sighed. “Sure. Is Hannah okay?”
“Yeah. We pretty much went to bed as soon as we got home last night. She woke up a couple of times because she kept going low, but she’s okay.”
“Good. I’ve still got her dress and your suit. I’ll get them cleaned and bring them over. Can I bring you guys some food?”
His heart softened at his sister’s words. “We’re all right. But thank you.”
“Okay. Call if you need anything.”
“I will.”
“Love you, big brother.”
“Love you too.”
The second the call ended, Erik dialed Chandler. It took him three rings to answer.
“You know, some of us like sleeping in every once in a while.”
