“Can we just pretend like it’s nothing? I just want to enjoy being with you.”
“You do enjoy that a lot, don’t you?”
“Cocky much?”
“Speaking the truth. Two orgasms tonight, plus the two from earlier.”
“I’ll give you one of those orgasms. I got myself off the second time.”
“Only because of my dirty talk and my big cock in your mouth.”
“That’s true. Alright, partial credit. One-and-a-half orgasms.”
“I’ll take it.”
She wiggles her hips, getting closer. “I’m just nervous, that’s all. Adler’s still looking for those guys from the clan and things with us?—”
I let out a long breath. “Yeah. Things with us.”
“They’re good, right?”
“They’re very good.”
“I love being with you. I mean, not even just the sex stuff?—”
“But the sex stuff is great,” I add.
She laughs, sounding sleepy and vulnerable, which only makes me love her even more. “Yeah, it’s great.”
“I agree though. I despised you not long ago?—”
“You were misinformed and very stupid.”
“—and now here I am like I can’t live without you. It’s just strange how things change.”
She doesn’t speak. I feel her chest rising and falling with her breath. “I know what you mean. Jayson. Can I—?” She stops herself and I wait for her to go on, but she doesn’t.
“Can you, what?” I prompt.
“Go to sleep.” She says it quickly, and I’m not sure if that’s what she really meant or not. “Sorry, I’m just really tired.”
“Then sleep.” I kiss her hair. “I’ll be right here.”
I hold her as she drifts off, but I can’t bring myself to close my eyes. I breathe in her smell and think about everything we’ve been through already. I keep seeing her sitting at that bar as her own brother’s hitman raised a weapon to her and nearly took away this sweet, beautiful girl. I nearly lost her, and now I’m consumed with keeping her and making sure she’s safe.
But she wanted to tell me something. Right then, she had something she wanted to say, and it keeps nagging at me. What is she hiding? What is she holding back?
Whatever it is, I can keep waiting. So long as she stays here in my bed, right here in my arms, I can wait.
Chapter31
Fallon
Ithrow the duffel bag filled with stolen documents over my shoulder and leave the condo like I’m diving into shark-infested waters.
“Keep it together,” I whisper to myself as I walk down the hall.
It’s a little past eight in the morning. Jayson left for work a few hours ago—he spends most of the morning on the phone with London dealing with his business there—and I waited until I was sure he wouldn’t come back before making myself go through with my plan.
