It is reassuring to see her as a human and not as this person on a pedestal that she wants to be seen as.

“I wanna go home,” Maisey says in my ear. “These lights are bright.”

“We really should get going,” I say as the two women have a stare down.

“Why don’t we get dinner and catch up,” Nicoli says to me.

“I’m with my family,” I make it clear.

Nicoli rolls her eyes, “Obviously they can come.”

“We ate already. Sorry. Maybe next time,” Cam says before she starts to pull us away from Nicoli.

Nicoli frowns but remains where she stood.

The paparazzi split off. Half following us and half staying with Nicoli.

We rush home and they don’t follow us into the apartment complex.

Once in the elevator, I set Maisey down and she hugs my leg.

“That was… a lot,” Cam says. “Is Nicoli always like that?”

She has no idea.

“Yeah.”

“She’s the worst,” Maisey says.

“Maisey, you should not talk about people like that,” I scolded my daughter.

She rubs her face against my legs, “She made you miserable.”

She isn’t wrong. Being with Nicoli was a rollercoaster. We had some ups but it was mostly downs. And when things were down they were really down.

Cam reaches up and runs her hand through my hair, helping me relax. Just the feeling of her touch is enough to help calm my nerves. She keeps me at peace. It just feels right being with her and having her comfort me.

We get off the elevator and I walk Maisey to her room as Cam follows. The two of us help Maisey get ready for bed, taking turns reading her a bedtime story.

I walk Cam back to her room.

Leaning against the doorway, I lean down at the same time that Cam leans up and our lips meet. It's a slow passionate kiss full of meaning.

I put everything that I am feeling into that kiss. Cam truly makes me feel seen and that is what I need in my life.

Chapter 19 - Camdyn Schriefer

This kiss with Parker feels different. It feels like the start of something and it feels perfect. It is as if he is letting me know that he is all in on this kiss.

I pull away and look deep into his eyes.

“Goodnight, Cam,” Parker whispers before kissing my forehead and walking away.

I watch his taut butt as he struts down the hallway and all I can think about is how this just feels right. Being with Parker is where I am supposed to be.

I get ready for bed with a happy smile playing upon my lips. Everything just feels perfect.

It is not until I lay down and stare up at the ceiling, which I do every night, that a lump forms in my throat.
