Ethan smiles and says, "We're going early today, Aria."
"We are. Don't you like it?"
"I like it,'" he says and laughs.
I may have evaded Connor this morning, but I'm already dreading seeing him in the evening. But at least I'll have the house to myself once he's gone for work. Hopefully, he's gone before I get back home.
"Oh, shoot," I say out loud.
Ethan scrunches his face. "What’s wrong? Forgot my snacks?"
"I forgot my…erm, something."
"You were rushing, that's why."
I smile and pinch his cheek.
I'd completely forgotten that today is Connor’s off day. He goes to work at the gym only three times a week. Sometimes he goes out on his off days, but most times he's in, resting.
Shoot, shoot, shoot! So where do I go after dropping Ethan off?
We pull up to the school and I walk him to the door to see him off, then I dial Bria's number.
"I wanted to call you yesterday. But I've been so busy. Just cleared my desk last night," she says.
"Are you at work?" I ask her.
"No, I'm not going in today. I've been working like crazy. I'm taking a break before I break down."
Perfect. "Okay, I just dropped Ethan off. I'm coming over."
Bria opens the door with a smile on her face, then she frowns.
"What?" I ask.
"There's something different about you. I don't know. Have you been getting some?"
"Getting what?" I know what she means but I feign ignorance and waltz past her.
"Like, you know, getting some dick?"
I rush away from her. "Where would I get that?"
"Well, maybe you met someone new. But I swear you have a new type of glow."
"And dick is the only thing that gives a girl glow? Money gives it, too, and I just received my first paycheck. Amy was right, it's more than I was making teaching."
"I don't know. This doesn't look like money glow. As someone who receives both a paycheck and dick regularly, I’d say this looks like an I-just-got-dick type of glow."
"Well, it's not," I say, thumping onto a sofa.
She clicks her tongue and puts her middle and index fingers to her eyes and directs them to me to sayI'm watching you.
That was close. But I know I need to get out before she asks again because when Bria has something on her mind, she doesn't let it go until she gets to the bottom of it. And the fact is, sisters just know shit about each other. I can’t evade her for long.
"Oops, I totally forgot, I’m supposed to be meeting a friend right now."
"Okay, I was planning to stop by and see Chad at his office anyway. Hey, make sure you get more of what's making you glow, Sis."
