“And she’s protected?” Tracer turned back to Ryan, and Ryan was surprised to see concern on his face.

“Yeah, she’s at Westside. I have no doubt Sam would have put additional security on her too.”

They both glanced at the door as footsteps approached.

“Sit tight and play nice.”

“THEY COULD ALREADY be dead. Can we really trust Tracer?” Tyler said.

“If they wanted them dead, they would have just killed them at the house. They want this exchange more than they want to kill them. As for trusting Tracer, what choice do we have? It’s the only lead we have on their location. We’ve verified the ship is where he said it was.”

Dex looked at his team, understanding their doubts about Tracer. The man played by his own rules. But Dex’s gut said the information he’d gotten was good.

“The man has been living in that world a long time. He just took out the head of the biggest cartel. Might have gotten tempted. Who’s to say he hasn’t taken over?” Tyler apparently wasn’t convinced.

This time Mira spoke. “Tyler, the man’s sister was brutally murdered. Are you trying to say you wouldn’t want to do the same thing if it was your sister? We’ve dug into him. He pays for his mom’s nursing care. His only kills have been other cartel players. He protected Chloe. He gave us the tip to move Sophie. Why would he suddenly turn now? In fact, he’s risking his own freedom knowing you guys are likely going to bring him in.”

The team were quiet and stared at Mira.

Tyler held up his hands. “OK, OK. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.”

“So, what now?” Steve stood up. “I’m done standing around here talking.”

“Ryan’s only focus will be to protect Sophie. He’ll wait for us to come get them. Because that’s exactly what we’re going to do.” Dex turned and faced Sam. Sam hadn’t actually agreed to any op yet.

“Tell me what you’re thinking,” Sam said quietly.

“I’m thinking we are a SEAL team. No one can do maritime rescue better than us. We take a Zodiac as close as we can get, then swim the rest of the way.”

“Swimming should be easy enough to get there unnoticed,” Steve agreed.

“OK. You get on board. What then? It’s a big ship. Ryan and Sophie could be anywhere. Perez or Reborn could shoot them before you find them once they realize you’re on board. The odds don’t look great,” Sanchez said from on screen.

“If Tracer is playing on our side, he’ll work with Ryan,” Dex replied.

“And if he isn’t, and this is a ruse to get the team there?” Sam challenged.

Fuck, even Sam had doubts about Tracer.

“We’ve worked with worse odds and we’re all still here.” Dex dismissed the concern. He didn’t give a fuck about the odds. He wasn’t leaving Ryan and Sophie on that ship alone, and he damn well knew his team would be right with him.

“Even so, the odds are better with two teams.” Everyone turned at Liam’s voice. He and the rest of Nyx walked into the war room.

“You just got back and you are not mission cleared,” Sam said.

“We’re good. Sorry, boss, but there's no way we’re not going in to help get our people out.”

All eyes were on Sam, waiting for his response. Dex glanced at Liam, catching his eye as he winked. Damn, he could kiss his fellow team leader right now.

“Fine. We don’t have time to argue,” Sam finally said. “Dale, Onyx is going in. Keep us informed if Reborn make contact again.”

“Alright! Let’s get this show underway,” Mackie said.

Dex had never been so grateful to be a part of Sam’s team. If this was SEALs, they would have to wait for this to go up a chain for clearance. Wasting time they didn’t have.

“Thirty minutes everyone. Get geared up.”

TYLER FOLLOWED MIRA out of the war room.
