"To be honest, I'm surprised. He'd always been the quiet, geeky type, a regular man with a regular job and no criminal record or worry, but as he put it, you'll do anything for what's yours, right?"

I give a little nod as her eyes meet mine, and as she zips up her suitcase, I stand lost in thought, sliding my tongue piercingalong my bottom lip. There's something fucking strange going on here. I have a bad feeling that Wren's father is a part of my world.

As soon as I shook his hand, I could tell he wasn't your average guy; he exudes an aura that only the elites recognize. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I'm overthinking it since I don't trust any motherfucker right now, but it looks like I'll be looking into Wren's dad's background.

She smiles at me as she drags the suitcase away from her couch.

"Right, let's go!"

I take a couple steps forward, take her suitcase, and we leave the house.

When we arrive outside Sara's house and Arlo turns off the engine, he sits back in his seat even further, letting out a tense breath while staring ahead.

"Hey, what's wrong?"

He waits a bit before reaching down, unbuckles his seatbelt and answers as he opens his door before stepping out.

"I'm good."

I just stare at him as he closes the door behind him and I exit the car.

As we near the front door, I lightly catch his tattooed hand in mine, and he comes to a halt before turning to face me.

I make pleading eyes at him.

"Tell me what's wrong, please?"

I close the small gap between us, and he just stares down at me, expressionless, and I continue while placing my hands on his chest.

"If you don't want to do the whole dinner thing, just say that because we don't have to go."

He looks me in the eyes silently before placing his hands on the side of my neck, his thumbs resting on my jaw, and the connection makes me feel mushy inside.

"I don't give a damn about that, Wren. I'll do whatever the fuck you want me to do."

I offer him a little smile before he looks at my lips and dips his head until our lips meet. I hold his wrists, and he drags his thumbs down my jaw as our tongues entwine. After a heartfelt kiss that leaves my body tingling, he kisses my forehead gently before taking my hand and leading me to the front door.

I stand behind him as he knocks on the door, and Sara answers quickly. When she comes into view, she greets us with a wide smile.

"It's good to see you guys; come on in!"

Arlo steps in first and kisses her on the cheek before releasing my hand and walking deeper into the home.

Sara and I embrace before she talks quietly to me.

"Are you all right? I'm so sorry."

With a little smile, I shake my head.

"I'm fine, Sara; thank you, though. How are you doing?"

She sighs deeply before closing the door behind us.

"Things are a little crazy right now, but I'll be fine."

I offer her a simple understanding nod before I suddenly hear Cree's voice and my head whips around to see him.

"Where have you been, Daddy?"
