Page 153 of Unravelling The Beast

I hang up on him without saying anything else before texting him my location and dragging myself to the side of the road, where I sit with my head lowered between my bent knees.

I sit there for a while, thinking about all kinds of crazy shit. Some cars pass by and swerve around my smashed Lamborghini, but none of them stop.

I groan as I hear police sirens in the distance and talk to myself.

"Fuck, that's all I fucking need."

As they get closer, a car pulls up behind me, and I glance over my shoulder to see, assuming it's Jasper. He runs over to me and grabs my arm, throwing his arm over my back and lifting me up.

I hobble over to his car, and once inside, he climbs in beside me and speaks as he speeds away.

"Where too?"

I look across at my half brother and stare at his side profile, thinking about how he isn't really a part of this world. He's done a few odd jobs here and there, but he's never been as deeply devoted as I am. Jasper is my complete opposite, although we have a striking similarity in looks.

In times like this, I recognise he is loyal to me rather than our father. He has a specific hatred for him that probably cuts him far deeper than my dislike for him, but I'm guessing he's never acted upon it because I've always been close to our dad. I'm surprised that he wants to help me at all. I've been a shit brother.

I sigh and look ahead.

"My mom's house."

He casts a brief glance my way.

"You don't want to go find Wren first?"

My jaw clenches as I ponder it before responding.

"I need to clear some things up first; I have no idea where the hell they've taken her. Also, I'd like to know why the fuck my mom lied to me about dad being in fucking Mexico when he clearly isn't."

He speaks, stunned.

"She lied to you? Fuck."

Just thinking about it makes me furious; after all, what else has she lied to me about? All this Ghost shit? Who the fuck can I trust if I can't even trust my own mom?

Jasper speaks up alongside me.

"I spoke with Lil on the way here; she's fine. You think she'll be okay, right?"

I turn my head to face him.

"She'll be fucking fine; they got what they really wanted."

He offers a slight nod and then looks forward again, taking my word for it, but I hope to fuck I'm right and they don't take her as well. Regardless, I need Jasper's assistance.

We're soon driving across town, closer to my parents' place, and I start speaking again.

"Do you have a gun?"

He motions to the dashboard in front of me, which I open to see his handgun. I pick it up and check the rounds before cocking it back as we drive through the already-open gates.

When we reach the house, I quickly step out of the car before making my way to the front door. When I discover the door is slightly ajar, suspicion grows within me, and I slowly enter the house. I look around, confused, with Jasper lurking behind me, and there isn't a sound.

I motion for him to follow me up the long stairs, and when I reach the top, I can hear faint noises coming from down the hallway. I keep my gun pointed forward and take a step deeper within the mansion until I'm standing outside my mom's office.

I throw a look behind me at Jasper, and when he gives me a slight nod, I immediately open the door and aim sharply forward again.

My eyes widen when I spot my mom on the floor, severely beaten, and I sprint over to her before sinking on my knees beside her. I scan all around her swollen, beaten body and face, as I hardly recognise her.
